Have you ever noticed how they tilt their head to the side occasionally? Science says there is a reason for that. According to Mental Floss, the dog is trying to show us that they care.

When a dog tilts its head to the side it's their way of conveying empathy. It's all part of a dogs ability to pick up on your emotions. They may not know exactly what is wrong with you, but they know something is up, and so they tilt their head to show that they are there for you.

And here we have more empathy than anyone could possibly deal with.

Apparently there is also another reason, which is a lot more conventional. It helps them hear better. Tilting their head helps them pick up the location or source of a sound.
