Born 44 years ago, Robert Hoge entered this world with severe deformities that left him with a large growth on his nose and a seriously deformed leg.
His Birth Mom Didn’t Want To Take Him Home Because Of His ‘Ugly’ Face And Now He’s A Successful Author
#1
This self-described "ugly" baby was born to a mother who already had four children, and she wasn't sure that she had the ability or strength to raise another child with so many health issues.
#2
However, the mother spoke with her other children about the prospect of giving Robert up to the state or for adoption, and they reached a consensus.
#3 They wanted their new brother to be a part of their family.
Robert had the growth removed and was given a prosthetic leg, but it was still clear that his appearance and deformities would make fitting in difficult.
#4 His mother was open with him about the struggles of raising him. The doctors suggested she keep a journal to document his upbringing.
Doing so helped her speak openly with him.
She would read to him from her diary and he would share his experiences with her openly.
#5 The diary had some upsetting parts, but he came to understand later in life.
Robert carries no resentment and calls his mom "amazing, loving and caring."
He sees his life as a story with a sad beginning but a happy ending.
#6 Now, Robert has achieved both personal and professional success.
He's married with two daughters and works as a respected journalist. He uses his experiences to be the best father he can.
#7 He also achieved two other goals: traveling the world and helping others.
He works as a motivational speaker, using humor and his own life experiences to convince others that hardship isn't permanent.
#8 In 2013, he released an acclaimed book with the title Ugly.
It's inspired people all over the world and served to help Robert make peace with his turbulent childhood.
