A 2024 Home Alone parody trailer imagines an adult Kevin McCallister facing the Wet Bandits, sparking fan excitement for a potential third movie with the original cast. Fans eagerly support the concept despite its parody nature.
'Home Alone 3 Trailer' Set In 2024 Sees Wet Bandits Released From Prison
Although Home Alone 3 already exists, this one appears to be far better than the stand-alone sequel from 1997.
We now know what became of Kevin McCallister, the legendary figure played by Macaulay Culkin, more than thirty years after he used the pigeon lady to help lock up his arch-enemy, the clumsy crooks known as the Wet Bandits, in Central Park.
Sort of, anyway.
A dedicated movie enthusiast and trailer creator made the divine decision to provide Home Alone enthusiasts with a glimpse of what a 2024 movie starring the original cast would resemble.
With his latest trailer, YouTuber @VJ4rawr2 hit the mark on his pledge to provide moviegoers with "the highest quality edited fan trailers for the movies you WISH Hollywood would make."
His concept of an adult Kevin McCallister became a reality through a combination of clever scene-switching, head-switching, background changes, and the use of professional voice actors.
As the events of Home Alone 2: Lost in New York concluded, awkward thieves Harold "Harry" Lyme (Joe Pesci) and Marvin "Marv" Merchants (Daniel Stern) are being taken to jail after robbing a toy store.
Given that the film has been in theaters for a remarkable 31 years, the two must have received a heavy punishment for all of their misconduct. I might add, as they deserved.
Kevin and his numerous siblings and relatives have grown up in the meanwhile, and the main character is no longer a mischievous child who spends the holiday season chasing away robbers.
That is until the Wet Bandits are let out of jail and send him a worrying Christmas letter that says, "We're back, little buddy," accompanied by a photo of themselves.
As the two conducted reconnaissance on the mansion, Kevin glanced up and saw the beat-up Dodge Ram van with the words 'Oh-Kay Plumbing and Heating' painted on the side. This vehicle was once parked outside his childhood home.
The following is the voiceover for the fictitious Home Alone: Kevin's Revenge trailer: " This holiday season, it's time to rediscover a classic. Kevin Mcallister is back - except this family is a little weird around Christmas."
Kevin is heard speaking with Catherine O'Hara's character, his on-screen mother Kate, and telling her: "That day you left, I had to defend our house. I was just a kid and you left me home alone."
Naturally, none of these scenes—or any others, for that matter—were really filmed by the actors; instead, @VJ4rawr2 used some very creative editing.
The video looks a little shady when Harry and Marv are shown being released from jail in the parody trailer, but to be fair, the director claimed there wasn't a lot of Joe Pesci footage available.
Harry tells his sidekick: "Every day I sat in that prison cell, I thought about the kid. He's going to pay."
However, Kevin has a clever comeback of his own: "This time it's not just me home alone. I need to defend this house for my family."
As Kevin fights the Wet Bandits one last time, the parody warns fans of Home Alone to "get ready for Kevin's final showdown," which eventually makes it onto the news.
A TV anchor informs the audience that a SWAT squad is on its way to investigate reports of a "Chicago man who has booby-trapped his house with guns, explosives, and possibly tarantulas."
Evidently, a lot of police radios are pinging, and one of these coppers is none other than Kevin's violent elder brother, Buzz (Devin Ratray).
His superior warns that "this is an extremely violent crime with a high chance of fatality" as he receives the message that "two elderly gentlemen are being shot at, lit on fire, and struck with blunt objects."
Buzz, who has heard stories similar to this one before, is uninterested and merely scoffs, saying, "Nice try, Kevin, nice try."
Even though the teaser was a parody, Home Alone fans loved it and suggested the plot may serve as inspiration for a much-anticipated third episode in the franchise that would feature the original actors.
One said: "They definitely should make this movie, it would be great and probably break the box office."
While another wrote: "Great job putting this together, and yes, I agree this should be made!"
And a third added: "Everything about it looks awesome. My kids about lost it they were so excited until they realized it wasn't real."
