Airbnb is renting out the "Home Alone" house this month for one hijinks-filled night. On December 12, the same Chicago-area mansion where a young Macaulay Culkin defeated the buffoonish Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern will be available for a one-night stay. Oh, and it'll only set you back $25, which is less than a couple of pizzas.
Home Alone House Becomes Airbnb For One Night Only, And It Could Be Yours For Only $25
The house appears exactly like it did in the 1990 holiday film, complete with a lawn jockey statue outside, a candlelight dining room for eating mac & cheese while plotting how to thwart robbers, and paint cans swinging above the stairs. According to Airbnb's description, the pet tarantula that horrified the Wet Bandits would also be there, because it wouldn't be Christmas without an arachnid.
The home's host, Buzz McAllister, Kevin's obnoxious elder brother, is perhaps the most startling. According to Airbnb, Buzz has calmed down enough to welcome visitors into his childhood home.
Staying at the McAllister home won't break the bank (it'll set you back just over a quarter of a hundred bucks), but it will be competitive. The home will be accessible for one night only the next week, beginning on December 7 at 2 p.m. ET.
If you are successful in booking, Airbnb states that you will be responsible for your transportation to Chicago (much like the McCallister family when they found they had left their youngster in another country).
The Airbnb promotion coincides with the premiere on Disney+ last month of "Home Sweet Home Alone," a new edition in the "Home Alone" franchise.
Archie Yates, well known for "Jojo Rabbit," plays a young child whose loud family abandons him in a mansion during the Christmas holiday; only this time, he's British, and Ellie Kemper plays one of the would-be burglars. Although Yates is depicted in framed images throughout the "Home Alone" property, Airbnb owner Buzz has recruited a security crew to guarantee that guests' stay is not disrupted by a break-in.
