How Is This Curly-Haired Cat Even A Real Thing?

#1 Introducing the Selkirk Rex…

It's hard to believe that this isn't a toy, but these curly haired cats are real, breathing cats. These fluffy balls of fur look like they were just tumble dried on high heat, and we wanna squish them.

The breed was developed in 1987 from a curly haired cat found in a shelter. Kitties from a litter can be born with straight hair as well, but the breed is best known for its curly fur. Their coats, while not technically hypoallergenic because there is no true hypoallergenic breed of cat, allegedly don't often bother those with cat allergies.

The Selkirk Rex is also the most relaxed of the three Rex breeds and doesn't need the same high level of activity as a Devon or Cornish Rex (which are bizarrely cute-looking, too).

#2 These little babies are so curly that even their whiskers are curly.
