Mayonnaise is one of those condiments that can be found in almost every kitchen. It’s slathered on sandwiches, mixed into potato salads, and used as a base for countless sauces and dressings.

But while most people don’t give much thought to how it’s made, that blissful ignorance seems to have been ruined for many after a recent viral video surfaced.

First, the internet ruined chicken nuggets for people. Then, crab sticks had their turn. Now, it’s mayo that’s making people rethink their food choices.

Yes, the creamy spread that people love on their burgers, fries, and sandwiches is now under scrutiny.

Some food secrets are better left unknown, but thanks to social media, nothing stays hidden for long.

Ever since a video demonstrating how mayo is made started circulating online, reactions have been divided. Some people were intrigued, while others claimed they would never eat it again.

Once people saw exactly what goes into making mayonnaise, they couldn’t unsee it. The ingredients and the method of blending them together left some viewers questioning their love for the condiment.

The viral clip, posted by TikTok user (@agentgp1978), featured a demonstration of the process, showing someone mixing the key ingredients.

Mayonnaise is made by emulsifying eggs, oil, vinegar, and mustard. While that might not sound too bad on paper, seeing it all come together was a bit too much for some.

While the finished product looked just like store-bought mayo, the process of making it left people with very mixed reactions.

Some were completely on board with the idea of homemade mayo, with one viewer commenting: "Why not use Coconut oil! That would make the home made mayo the bomb!"

Another added: "An egg and oil. That's it. Use a good extra virgin olive oil, and you'll never want to buy it from a store again."

But not everyone was impressed.

One person admitted: "I will never see mayonnaise the same."

Another shared their reaction: "I can still remember how I felt so betrayed the day I learned how mayonnaise is actually made."

Another Twitter user chimed in: "There is a reason I don't eat mayo anymore - it is oil with egg if you lucky! In the stores has way many more artificial ingredients. I make my own ketchup too and dips - fresh fruit based ones are delicious and healthy."

Someone else, clearly disturbed, wrote: "You keep that to yourself I don't need to know about that."

Despite the initial shock, there were still plenty of people who admitted they wouldn’t be giving up mayo anytime soon.

"When I found out mayo was nothing but eggs & oil... It didn't stop me from making one sandwich," one viewer admitted.

As for me, I’ll probably still enjoy mayo when it’s already made and in my sandwich.

But making it from scratch? That’s a whole different story. I think I’ll leave that to the professionals.
