According to Metro, the suspects were given over to the Attorney General's Office and charged with narcotics trafficking, manufacturing, and transporting, as well as the usage, construction, commercialization, and possession of semi-submersibles or submersibles.

Officers discovered that the cocaine had been divided into 4,000 plastic bundles and placed in 200 big bags. The narcotics are believed to have belonged to the Alfonso Cano Western Bloc, a dissident organization of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC).

According to Defense Minister Diego Molano, the bust was the largest the Navy has had in the last two years, and it comes after Colombia established a new strategy to combat drug trafficking that focuses on controlling the internet to combat criminal groups and disrupt their financial operations.

At least five tonnes of drugs are claimed to have been able to fit on the submarine, which had a diesel engine and was worth almost half a million dollars, according to the Colombian navy. Because of their capacity to hold such big amounts, the vessels are reported to be "often employed by drug trafficking organizations to transfer larger volumes of illicit drugs to Mexican cartels."

To combat the increased distribution of drugs online, crime-fighting agencies around the world will boost their cyber presence, including undercover agents, as per the navy.

Artificial intelligence will also be utilized to track the sale and trafficking of chemical compounds used in drug production, ensuring that lawful sales are protected while preventing narcotics usage.
