A humanoid robot was reportedly detained by police after a confusing encounter with an elderly woman on a busy street in China.

The unusual moment took place last week in the city of Macau. Witnesses described the scene as strange and unsettling, especially after the elderly woman realized the small machine was following her.

After the encounter, the 70-year-old woman was taken to the hospital to be checked by medical staff. Reports said she was shaken by the experience but later released.

The robot involved in the situation stood about 4 feet 4 inches tall. It was moving along the street during what appears to have been a public test.

According to reports, several people nearby stopped to watch as the unusual scene unfolded.

Humanoid robots like the Unitree G1 have recently become more common in demonstrations and promotional events. They are designed to walk, move their arms, and interact with people in public settings.

However, when these machines appear unexpectedly in crowded places, they can easily startle pedestrians who are not expecting to see them walking nearby.

This appears to be exactly what happened during the Macau encounter.

Videos shared online show the robot moving along the sidewalk while bystanders react with curiosity and confusion.

Some people filming the moment seemed amused by the unusual sight, while others appeared unsure about what the robot was doing.

As the footage spread online, many viewers debated whether robots should be tested in busy public areas where people may not realize what they are seeing.

The strange situation quickly attracted attention across social media platforms.

For many people watching the footage later, the moment highlights how quickly everyday spaces can feel different when advanced machines appear in them.

Humanoid robots are designed to move in ways that resemble human behavior, but unexpected encounters can still cause confusion.

Experts often point out that public demonstrations should include clear supervision and safety precautions so pedestrians do not feel threatened or alarmed.

In this case, police stepped in quickly once the situation became tense.

People nearby recorded video of the encounter as the elderly woman confronted the robot. The machine was reportedly a Unitree G1 model that sells for around $13,500.

"You're making my heart race!" the woman shouted in Cantonese, according to a report by the Macau Post. "You've got plenty to do, so what's the point of messing around with this? Are you freaking crazy?"

The report explained that the woman had been walking along the street while looking at her cellphone when she suddenly realized that "something" was walking closely behind her.

Once she noticed the robot, she turned around quickly and confronted it.

Startled by the unexpected presence of the robot, the woman stopped and demanded to know what it was doing behind her.

Video footage from the scene shows the robot lifting both of its arms while the woman continued to shout at it.

Shortly afterward, two police officers arrived and removed the robot from the street while people nearby watched.

The Macau Post later reported that "there was no physical contact" between the woman and the robot during the incident.

Even so, she was taken to a hospital for a precautionary medical check before being released.

Authorities later explained that the robot belongs to a local education center in Macau.

At the time of the encounter, it was reportedly being used for "promotional activities" in the area.

The machine was controlled remotely by a 50-year-old operator. He told police that he had been testing the robot outdoors in order to improve how it moves and interacts with people.

After reviewing the situation, police warned him to be more careful about "endangering or frightening pedestrians."

Despite the humor online, the moment also sparked conversation about how quickly robots are becoming part of everyday life and how people react when they encounter them unexpectedly.
