Apparently, some believe only a specific type of man can pull off what’s being called the ‘hung smile.’
The Real Meaning Behind The 'Hung Smile' — And Why People Think It Reveals A Man's Size
Over the years, plenty of strange and often laughable trends have claimed to reveal a man’s penis size — from finger length to shoe size, and even astrology. But now, a new and equally absurd idea has taken over social media feeds, and it’s got people debating yet again.
This time, it’s all about the so-called “hung smile,” a facial expression that some people on X and Reddit insist can supposedly reveal whether a man is well-endowed.
The theory suggests that a certain kind of confident grin or knowing smirk might be the secret indicator of what’s going on below the belt — though, unsurprisingly, there’s zero scientific evidence behind it.
Photos of male celebrities have been circulating online, with fans arguing over who does — and doesn’t — have the “hung smile.” Many users have pointed to Hollywood heartthrobs, claiming their smirks say more than words ever could.
One TikTok creator, @stephenbrenland, chimed in on the trend, explaining: "Only a certain specific group of men can do this smile, and it's because they're actually 'hung' if you know what I mean."
"When a man is well-endowed […] he gives this specific smile and it's not like 'I'm so happy,' it's more like a smug smirk, sometimes with teeth."
"The corners of his mouth don't even go up that much, but they are up a little bit. It just has so much confidence behind it."
"... a lot of men who are hung will use this smile because they know what they're non-verbally saying to you."
People online have been quick to assign this so-called “smirk of confidence” to actors like David Corenswet, Evan Peters, and Hugh Jackman — all of whom, according to fans, seem to have perfected the look. Others argue it’s less about physical traits and more about the attitude a man gives off when he smiles.
To make sense of the viral conversation, Zachary Zane — Grindr’s sex and relationship expert — shared his professional take on the idea.
He explained: "A hung smile is a specific, knowing smirk that exudes confidence and suggests the man smiling is well-endowed. It's rarely a big, teeth-baring smile, there's usually a subtlety and a hint of naughtiness, giving the impression that they're hiding a big surprise in their pants."
But before anyone starts studying smiles for clues, Zane made it clear that this is all in good fun, not science, adding: "There's no scientific correlation between someone's smile and their penis size, this is purely a playful cultural shorthand."
For those still curious, urologist Dr. Rena Malik offered a more grounded take during her appearance on the Diary of a CEO podcast. While she dismissed the “hung smile” theory entirely, she did mention one body part that might — loosely — correlate with size.
"There's one study - it's a Japanese study where they looked at only Japanese men so there are some limitations - but they measured all these body parts and penile length and they found was that nose length was correlated with penile length, not hand length or foot," she explained.
