The house she found help at was located about eight miles from the grave site.

Before this terrifying ordeal, Young Sook had managed to inform her daughter and a friend of her location and even called emergency services using her Apple Watch.

54-year-old Chae Kyong was subsequently arrested and faced multiple charges.

These included attempted murder in the first degree-domestic violence, kidnapping in the first degree-domestic violence, assault in the first degree-domestic violence, and felony harassment-threat to kill-domestic violence.

Chae Kyong had entered a guilty plea to one count of second-degree attempted murder as part of a domestic violence case, which resulted in a plea deal with the court.

"On October 16, 2022, in the County of Thurston, Washington, with the intent to cause the death of my wife Young Sook An, I took a substantial step towards the commission of the offense when I kidnapped her from our home, took her to the woods, assaulted her, and placed her bound in a hole and covered her with branches," Chae Kyong confessed, according to court records.

Before the plea deal was reached last month, Chae Kyong’s defense attorney had requested bail be set at $150,000. However, Young Sook urgently opposed his release.

"Please no bail," she implored.

"I am really afraid for my life. I just want to emphasize that I fear him so much and he will kill me again if he is out."

The incident that led to this violent act was reportedly triggered by an argument over their ongoing divorce proceedings.
