Parents furious with teenage daughter who refused to share her room with her 14 y/o uncle. She says there was enough space in the house and shouldn't be forced to give up her space.
I Dont Want To Share My Room With My 14 Y/O Uncle & Locked My Room So He Couldn't Get In.
When you're a teen, you don't want to share your room with anyone let alone your teenage uncle. This young woman was faced with the complicated situation of having to share her bedroom with her mother's younger brother when he had nowhere else to go.
She said that she didn't mind having him live with them but didn't understand why she had to share her room with him.
She said that they had three rooms in the house but the third room was in the basement. She had originally assumed that her uncle would just take the spare room in the basement but was surprised to learn that her parents intended for her to share her bedroom with him.
They said this was because he was scared of the dark.
When she put her foot down, her mother said that she was being 'difficult' and that she would simply have to deal with it.
She said that she didn't want to share her room with a teenage boy she had never met before. She added that she invited her boyfriend over often and didn't want to deal with that with her uncle around.
She said that the fights got worse the night before her uncle Alex came. The parents said they needed to put a mattress in her room for him but she said that she was not going to let that happen.
Her mother was infuriated at OP and said that she would make her sleep in the basement instead. OP said she didn't want to give up her room and would not share either.
OP then went in and locked her room from the inside. Her parents asked her to open the door to put the mattress in but she refused to unlock the door. Her mother got mad once again and called her 'selfish'.
OP did the same thing again when Alex was over and the parents ended up putting the mattress in their own room until the situation was sorted.
OP said she would not back down, especially when there was space for him to go. She wondered if she was in the wrong for standing her ground.
Commenters were on OP's side and wondered what the logic was behind making a teenage girl and boy share rooms in the first place.
They also wondered why the parents couldn't just move into the spare.
OP replied to one of the comments and said that the basement was isolated and they didn't want to be away from the main areas.
Some commenters told OP to take the basement room as that seemed to be the simplest solution.
OP told them that while she could make the move, she was emotionally attached to the one she had since she had grown up there.
Some wondered what had happened that caused Alex to suddenly make the move into OP's house.
OP however did not know and her parents hadn't clarified either.
