There are abandoned tunnels all over the United States that are remnants from the old mining days or railroad lines. Although they may have been used for different purposes, they all have one thing in common now: when the sun goes down, people tend to avoid them like the plague.

Locals who live near the tunnel have warned visitors from venturing into the structure. It has been reported that the tunnel has become the site where demonic apparitions appear, where car engines die out of the blue and where the eerie shrieks of trapped women and babies would echo.

The urban story of the tunnel reveals that it is the site of grizzly murders, death, and even satanic rituals. Not only is it dark, wet, and eerie, the tunnel is supposed to be extremely haunted by ghosts and apparitions that are the result of gruesome murders. Over the years people say that the tunnel has seen people disappear and rotting caucuses of animals in the tunnel.

The tunnel was named after the landowner, Edward Sensabaugh, who constructed the tunnel in the 1920s when a railroad passed through his property and he needed a shortcut through the hill to get to the back of his land where the small lake is located.

#6 He Went Crazy

Legend has it that Mr. Sensabaugh went mad one night and brutally murdered his wife and baby daughter, tossing them into the lake beside the tunnel. They say for the rest of his life, he visited the tunnel to remember them and that his ghost haunts the entrance to this day. Area residents believe ghosts guard the entrance to the tunnel.

#7 His Ghosts Tries To Scare Off Trespassers

Visits have reported that if you dare drive your car into the tunnel and turn it off, it will not turn back on. When you look into your rearview mirror, the ghostly image of Mr. Sensabaugh appears and lurks towards your car. They say just as he is about to reach you, the car will suddenly power on as if to give you a final opportunity to leave.

#8 The Baby Can Be Heard Crying

But it's not just the ghost of Mr. Sensabaugh that brave visitors have to worry about. The cry of his baby daughter can sometimes be heard inside the tunnel or just outside in the murky waters. Some claim to have heard the ghostly scream of a woman, which could belong to his wife.

#9 Animals Screams And Satanic Rituals

Mr. Sensabaugh had a hobby of imitating wild animals, and people say that the sounds of animals that would not be near the water or tunnel can be heard there nightly. Other theories are that Satanic rituals have been performed at the site for decades, sacrificing animals, which scream out in agony in their ghostly form as you pass through the tunnels damp darkness.

#10 Two Haunted Tunnels

There are actually two tunnels on the site, one you can walk through and one you can drive through, which is known as The Click Tunnel. Both lead to the roadway around the small lake and pond and are both noted as the spookiest places in the state of Tennessee. So if you happen to be driving through Hawkins County and you're looking for a fright, drive into the tunnel and turn your car off...if you dare.
