Incredible Moment When Heroic Sheriff Rescues Woman Trapped In Burning Car Caught On Bodycam Footage

On Saturday, July 1, Sergeant Ashleigh Taylor of the Candler County Sheriff's Office responded to a distress call from concerned motorists who witnessed a vehicle veer off Highway 46 in Metter, Georgia, and collided with a wooded embankment.

In Taylor's body camera clip, we see him responding quickly to the call, saying over his radio:

“There’s a car. It’s going to be in the woods.”

Deputy Taylor swiftly reaches the burning car, pushing through bushes and shrubs in the wooded area beside the road.

The vehicle is engulfed in flames with smoke billowing from underneath.

As he approaches the vehicle, he calls out to the driver: "Get out! Get out! Get out of the car! Unlock it. It's on fire! Get out!

"Ma'am, get out of the car, take your seat belt off! Take your seat belt off! Take your seat belt off!"

When Deputy Taylor reaches the car, he uses his baton to break the driver's window.

The bodycam footage captures the screams coming from inside the car.

He quickly helps the woman out of the vehicle, providing her with immediate assistance.

The Candler County Sheriff's Office praised Deputy Taylor for his impressive and fast response.

They described his actions as outstanding and recognized his dedication to his duty. His heroic efforts made a significant impact in a critical situation.

"Due to Sergeant Taylor’s swift actions, the driver was removed from a dangerous situation before it escalated,” it said.

“We would also like to thank the number of motorists that stopped to assist. Please join us in commending Sergeant Taylor for the outstanding job on this incident!"

Fortunately, there is positive news as the driver is anticipated to make a complete recovery.

Although the sheriff's office has withheld the driver's identity, they have disclosed that she was experiencing a medical emergency and appeared disoriented when Deputy Taylor attempted to assist her.

“Sgt. Taylor responded the way we all hope we would respond in a critical situation just like that,” Candler County Sheriff John Miles said.

“People were able to see the kind of job Sgt. Taylor did and able to see the kind of work first responders do all the time,” Sheriff Miles said.

As reported by WTOC, due to Deputy Taylor's rapid response, both the fire and the subsequent rescue transpired in under five minutes.
