Influencer Alexa says that the imbalance of responsibilities, the pink tax and the gender pay gap mean that women should not have to pay taxes.
Influencer Says Women Shouldn't Have To Pay Taxes: “We’ve Suffered Enough.”
@flexylexxxy on TikTok, has a hot take and we’re kind of here for it. Taxes are the worst part of being an adult. Alexa, our future leader said that the girls shouldn't have to pay taxes.
"When I say this, I'm dead serious," she begins.
"I'm not trying to be funny. I'm not joking, nothing. I don't think women should pay taxes."
She says that women ‘contribute enough’ and kinda nails the logic behind her conclusion. "Women in opposite-sex marriages are still doing more housework and caregiving than men."
"Wives are still spending more than double the amount of time on housework than their husbands and almost two hours more per week on caregiving, including tending to children."
“We suffer enough,” she says emphatically.
She might be on to something here, especially considering the gender pay gap with women earning only 82% of what men earn in the same role.
Add to that what’s known as the ‘pink tax’ where feminine products are priced higher than masculine counterparts.
This includes razors, haircuts, shampoo, lotions, etc.
One study revealed that the tariff rate on women’s underwear was 15.5% vs just 11.5% for men. We don’t know what they’re storing in there but are they really worth 4% less?
Commenters vehemently supported her opinion.
Some told her to run for office and start putting her ideas to action.
Commenters agreed that with wage disparity, women were 'paying twice'.
Some even brought up the unpaid labour often done by women.
Another commenter said that if they were the ones making the decisions, they could pay the taxes.
