A woman’s solo date was ruined after she was told she needs a friend to dine in. In a TikTok video, a Korean barbecue joint in California refused a potential customer from dining in just because she was alone.
Internet Divided With Opinion After Woman Told To Leave The Restaurant For Being Alone
Dining alone can be a daunting prospect. But when you muster up the courage to dine alone, and the restaurant doesn't let you in for being alone, it can really add insult to injury.
TikTok user Sunshine Chavez posted a video showing a staff member at a Korean barbecue joint in California telling her there is a two-person minimum for eating in the restaurant, pointing to the policy written on their sign-in sheet.

The caption said: “When the restaurant doesn’t let you dine in because you’re a party of 1 and you’re told next time bring a friend. Maybe I’m just hungry and emotional but I definitely cried in my car.”
Chavez admitted in the comments she had to build up the courage to go inside by herself, saying she waited in the car for 15 minutes before going in.

“I really debated about paying for an extra person. I was craving it all day (all week),” she added.
“Yeah this is actually a thing at most Korean bbq spots unfortunately,” a user said. “It sucks though.”
“It’s Korean bbq… they prepare and give you a lot of sides, meats, sauces, etc. it doesn’t make sense for them to do all of this for one person,” pointed out another.
According to their website, the restaurant, Bwon Shabu & BBQ, offers all-you-can eat Korean BBQ and shabu, which many pointed out could be why they have the strict two-person minimum.
Other users couldn’t believe there was a policy in place that entailed not allowing people to eat alone.
“As someone who loves eating out alone, this is a new fear unlocked lol,” one user wrote.
“What if you’re a party of 1 but appetite of 2?” questioned another.
One user shared the same plight of having no one to go with them even though they love korean bbq.
"If it’s like a Korean BBQ, they don’t allowed one person. I don’t know why because I love Korean bbq and most of the time I have no one to go with me!"

One user couldn't understand the reason they'll turn a customer away,
"were all the tables full? I can't understand why they would turn away a paying customer. would make me not want to return."
To which she replied, "No ! I’ve been here before and waited over an hour. I went this time and it was a 15 min wait. Plenty of tables :/"

And one user even offered to accompany her if she still wants to eat there, "Sunshine! I don’t mind being your +1 if you still wanted to eat there xD."
She replied' "So sweet of you."

The restaurant is now on the receiving end of a few negative reviews. Some of the latest one-star reviews on Google and Yelp reference the establishment’s two-person policy.
