TikTok user Shannon shared the bill she received from her hospital after her baby's birth and the internet is in awe with how expensive America is. Compared to her experience, many people shared their own baby birth experiences and how in many countries this process is completely free, in fact, one person from Singapore wrote that the government pays them to give birth. One person also genuinely asked if they are not able to pay such hefty bills, then do they put the child back inside or what?
TikTok user @shannonmayor shared her shock after she received the absurd hospital bill for her baby's birth.
In a now-viral TikTok, the young mom revealed the cost of her to the hospital to be an estimated total of $50,816.02. This was the grand total which the hospital further broke down to show how much insurance plan got it covered and how much she owes to the hospital.
Luckily, Shannon’s insurance covered the majority of the debt, leaving her to pay only $250.00 of the hefty bill.
The TikTok user captioned her post: “I wasn’t expecting the total to be that high.” As of the moment, the video has received over 7.8 million views.
Even though Shannon does not have to pay the hefty bill but her 12 seconds video sparked an intense social media debate in the comments section with many people showing their disbelief over America's healthcare system. Moreover, Shannon’s video highlighted the unfair disadvantage of those without health insurance faced.
