Another day brings another doomsday prediction.

Up till now, every forecast about the end of the world has missed the mark—at least among those with dates that have already passed.

But none of those predictions came from the man who discovered gravity… enter Sir Isaac Newton.

Newton was a British physicist and mathematician, renowned for discovering the laws of gravity and motion. He also invented calculus.

Without his brilliant mind, our rational world would probably look vastly different today.

So, if anyone could predict our end, it would likely be Newton..

Let's journey back to the early 18th century—specifically to the year 1704.

This was a time before the invention of the guillotine, trains, and even the piano.

In this era, Newton dipped his feathered quill in ink and theorized about the end of civilization on a piece of paper.

According to him, this end is approaching sooner than we might think.

In one of his predictions, which he probably never intended for us to read, Newton wrote: "So then the time times & half a time are 42 months or 1260 days or three years & an half, recconing twelve months to a yeare & 30 days to a month as was done in the Calendar of the primitive year.

“And the days of short lived Beasts being put for the years of lived kingdoms, the period of 1260 days, if dated from the complete conquest of the three kings A.C. 800, will end A.C. 2060.

“It may end later, but I see no reason for its ending sooner."

Yes, you read that correctly—2060, which is just 36 years from now. But how did Newton arrive at this conclusion?

Newton was a Christian, and he based his theory on the Book of Daniel. This book is an ancient testament of his religion and it mentions the apocalypse.

Explaining what Newton meant, Andrei Tapalaga, curator of History of Yesterday, said: "The 'end of the world' that Newton is referring to in this theory based on the Book of Daniel is that this will be when Jesus will come back and bring peace to this world by being the ruler for a whole millennium.

“Jesus would burn all of those that have corrupted Christianity for their own personal gain and teach us all to live in harmony.

“Those that oppose him will face his wrath and those who embrace him will face his love."

So, Newton's prediction didn’t necessarily mean Armageddon. It was more about the end of an era.
