Jacob Elordi has opened up about what it was like filming intimate scenes with Margot Robbie in Wuthering Heights, a movie that turned out to be less explicit than some viewers expected based on the marketing.

The film is based on Emily Brontë’s novel, which follows two deeply flawed characters caught in a passionate but destructive relationship that ends up impacting everyone around them.

Given the intensity of the source material, some audience members may have anticipated something much more explicit. In reality, there are no nude scenes in the film. Still, a few moments are charged enough to rival some of the more provocative scenes seen in movies like Saltburn.

Elordi discussed the experience of filming those intimate moments with Robbie during an interview with The Sun, explaining that the pair had strong chemistry from the very beginning.

"It's like, 'Action' and it's like a horse at the race track - straight out of the gates," the Australian actor said.

According to Elordi, shooting an intimate scene requires the same level of planning and coordination as filming a fight or a dance number. He explained that precision matters, and every movement must be carefully timed so the camera captures exactly what the director intends.

He said: "It's super-technical, especially the scene where, it's not a sex scene, but where I'm on top with my hands - that's choreographed because, in that kind of light, you only have so much space to move."

"So what you do has to fit in the frame and work with the lighting."

"If you have the opportunity to share a film set with Margot Robbie, you're going to make sure you're within five to ten metres at all times."

Many actors have spoken about how filming intimate scenes can be one of the more awkward parts of the job. Not everyone feels at ease performing those moments, which is why intimacy coordinators are now commonly present on set to ensure everyone feels safe and respected throughout the process.

Robbie previously admitted that she sometimes felt “weak at the knees” while working on Wuthering Heights. She explained that she becomes deeply connected to the people she works with and described herself as “co-dependent” with co-stars, which made adjusting after filming a challenge.

The filmmakers also made changes to the original storyline. In Brontë’s novel, despite the intense bond between Cathy and Heathcliff, their love is never fully realized because they end up with other partners. The movie adaptation chose to shift that dynamic to suit its own vision.

"Oh Heathcliff, let's be absolute human disasters which spoil everything for everyone..." Warner Bros.

Critical response to the movie has been mixed, with the film currently holding a 59 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
