Jenna Ortega Had A Savage Five-Word Response To Rumors That She's Dating Johnny Depp

Jenna Ortega recently addressed the swirling rumors about her being in a relationship with fellow actor Johnny Depp.

Last year, the celebrity gossip account Deuxmoi stirred the pot by posting an anonymous tip that claimed Ortega and Depp were seen out on a date together.

Now, it’s important to note that Deuxmoi doesn’t guarantee the accuracy of any of the tips they share.

In fact, their Instagram bio clearly states: “Some statements made on this account have not been independently confirmed. This account does not claim information published is based in fact.”

Despite this disclaimer, the rumor mill kicked into high gear, and soon, articles began to surface, suggesting that Ortega had spoken out about her so-called relationship with Depp.

The story spread quickly, with people speculating about the details.

In a recent interview with BuzzFeed, where Ortega was promoting her latest film, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, she was asked about the craziest rumor she had ever heard about herself.

Ortega didn’t hold back in her response. She said, “Probably that I was in a serious relationship with Johnny Depp and I wanted everybody to ‘leave us alone.’”

The Wednesday actress went on to express her disbelief, adding, “It’s so insane to me like I never spoke on that, I never said anything like that.”

She didn’t stop there, pointing out how some articles just invent their own quotes.

“Articles really do just make up their own quotes, but I thought that that was pretty hilarious,” she remarked.

Ortega also shared a funny moment from the set. She was working with her co-star Richard E. Grant when he came up to her and said, “Oh so you and Johnny,” to which she just laughed because, as she put it, “I don’t know that person.”

Fans on social media quickly rallied around Ortega’s response. They particularly loved her casual, “I don’t know that person” comment.

One Twitter user commented, “She really said I’ve never heard of that man in my life.”

Another user chimed in, saying, “She’s so real but how sick and twisted does an individual even have to be to make that up.”

It’s worth noting that at the time of these rumors, Ortega was 21 years old, while Depp was 60.

Another fan summed it up perfectly: “Now that’s how [you] deny a dating rumor.”

Ortega has been clear in the past that she doesn’t plan on discussing her love life publicly.

She’s concerned that it could overshadow her work. In a 2024 interview with Vanity Fair, the actress explained her stance, saying, “I don’t plan on speaking about my love life publicly, because that’s mine.”

She added, “When you know too much about someone’s personal life, then you watch films and you can only see them [the celebrity side of them], there’s nothing worse.”

Ortega’s firm but calm response to the rumors serves as a reminder of her focus on her career, keeping her private life private, and not letting gossip get in the way.
