Jennifer Lawrence explained why she prefers to tackle the most awkward scenes early in filming
Jennifer Lawrence has spoken openly about the nerves she still feels while filming and shared one clear preference she has when it comes to shooting intimate scenes.
For Hollywood actors, scripts can include anything from simple kiss scenes to more explicit moments, and performers are expected to approach them professionally.
Even so, Lawrence admitted that these scenes can still feel uncomfortable, despite the fact that they are carefully choreographed and not what they might appear to be on screen.
Lawrence has previously addressed this sense of awkwardness and the anxiety that can come with filming intimacy, explaining that it has followed her throughout her career.
During a conversation with Josh Horowitz at 92NY about her latest film, Die My Love, in which she stars alongside Robert Pattinson, she said she still feels nervous at the start of a new project.
She also shared that she prefers to deal with the most uncomfortable scenes as early as possible, especially when working with someone she does not know well.
Talking about one particular scene from the film, which she described as a “naked sex tiger” scene with Pattinson, Lawrence said it was filmed on the very first day.
She explained that the situation felt easier because the two actors were essentially strangers at the time.
She explained: "It was actually easier that way because Rob and I did not know each other, which is kind of better, you know."
Laughing as she spoke, Lawrence also reflected on filming intimate scenes with her longtime friend Josh Hutcherson during their time working on the Hunger Games films.
She added: "Like in Hunger Games, like me and Josh Hutcherson would have to kiss and that's like… Imagine it."
"You know, it's weirder and so yeah, doing it with a stranger is preferable."
Lawrence has also spoken highly of Pattinson’s performance in Die My Love, where he plays her on-screen husband.
In an earlier interview with V Magazine, Lawrence praised Pattinson’s contribution to the film, saying: "Rob brought so much more dimension to the film as a whole."
"He really held firm with this kind of backbone for his character which gave me so much more to push back against."
"I've never worked with an actor who was really in such a similar place as me in our lives, being new parents, which was so lovely and also built up natural trust."
"Rob is sensationally smart and really sweet. So it was fun. I enjoyed working with Rob immensely."
