The actor shared her thoughts while discussing her latest film alongside Robert Pattinson, Die My Love
Jennifer Lawrence has spoken openly about why she finds it easier to film intimate scenes with actors she has not worked with before.
Scenes involving physical closeness have long been a sensitive topic in film and television, with opinions differing on what feels appropriate and what crosses a line.
Outside of acting, that kind of physical contact with a coworker would raise serious concerns, but for actors it can sometimes be a required part of the job.
Intimacy coordinators are a fairly recent addition to film sets, with their role focused on setting clear boundaries and making sure everyone involved feels safe and respected.
They also play an important part in preventing pressure, which can be especially important for actors who are earlier in their careers.
Lawrence, who has spent years working at the top level of Hollywood and has filmed several NSFW scenes, explained one personal preference she has developed when dealing with this part of her work.
She explained that she would rather film an intimate scene with someone she has just met, as she finds it less uncomfortable than doing the same scene with a close friend.
Speaking to PEOPLE about working with Robert Pattinson, she said: "It was actually easier that way, because Rob and I did not know each other. Which is kind of better, you know?"
"Imagine it! So yeah, doing it with a stranger is preferable."
The Hunger Games star also reflected on filming an unusual scene in her latest project with Pattinson, Die My Love.
"It was these actors, and they're attacking each other like tigers," she said, "and we were like, 'OK, yeah,' and she was like, 'Can you do it naked, yeah?' [imitating Ramsay's Scottish accent]. We were like, 'Oh, OK,' and that was the first day on set."
It made for a memorable start to filming and set the tone for the rest of the production.
Lawrence has previously spoken about filming a kiss scene with longtime friend and co-star Josh Hutcherson, which she described as feeling more awkward because of their existing friendship.
The 35-year-old actor also shared that she often feels anxious before starting a new movie, and tackling the more challenging scenes early helps her settle into the role.
