This is horrifying.
Jennifer Lawrence has shared a distressing account of her early days in the acting world, revealing a particularly 'humiliating' ordeal she endured.
Now 33, Jennifer opened up about a challenging period in her burgeoning career, detailing a moment when she was subjected to intense pressure to lose weight in a way she found 'degrading.'
Speaking at the Elle's Women in Hollywood event in 2017, Jennifer looked back on an instance where film producers told her she needed to shed 15 pounds.
The demands didn't stop there; she was also coerced into participating in a 'naked lineup,' an experience she found profoundly 'humiliating.'
Jennifer described being lined up nude alongside slimmer women, purportedly to serve as 'inspiration' for her to lose weight.
"During this time a female producer had me do a nude lineup with about five women who were much, much thinner than me," she recounted.
"We are stood side-by-side with only tape on covering our privates. After that degrading and humiliating lineup, the female producer told me I should use the naked photos of myself as inspiration for my diet."
Additionally, Jennifer mentioned that another actress, whom she opted not to name, was fired from a role for failing to lose weight rapidly enough.
When she expressed to a male producer that the weight loss expectations were unreasonable, his response was dismissive.
"He didn't know why everyone thought [she] was so fat," he said, and concluded that he found her "perfectly fu**able."
Jennifer also disclosed that a director once propositioned her to act in a pornographic film, adding yet another layer to her harrowing experiences in the industry.
Her revelations emerged during the widespread repercussions of the Harvey Weinstein scandal.
This period was marked by a wave of allegations from high-profile actresses, models, and former employees, who claimed they had been sexually harassed or assaulted by the once-influential movie producer.
In 2020, Weinstein faced justice, receiving a 23-year sentence for rape and sexual assault.
During his trial, prosecutors characterized him as an 'abusive rapist' who exploited his victims.
At 71 years old, Weinstein stood trial on five counts related to rape and sexual assault.
Despite pleading not guilty to all charges, he was convicted of two. However, he was acquitted of the two most severe charges of predatory sexual assault.
Further legal repercussions came in 2023 when Weinstein was handed an additional 16 years in prison following a sentencing in LA.
Weinstein is serving his sentence at the Mohawk Correctional Facility.
