Biden will be the first president in US history to win elections with such remarkable numbers. Even though it is said that voter turnout for this year's elections was huge and many voters also availed the option of mailing due to the pandemic situation but no president in US history has gotten more than 80 million votes. And though Trump has lost these elections, he is trailing behind Biden and has won the second-highest number of popular votes in American history following the record voter turnout for the 2020 election.
Joe Biden has reportedly become the first president in US history to get votes of more than 80 million.
As CNN reports, these numbers are likely to increase as the votes for the 2020 elections continue to be counted.
As of this writing on November 25, CNN reports that the Democratic candidate has 80,026,717 votes, while President Donald Trump of the Republican party is trailing behind on 73,890,300 votes.
Even though Donald Trump is losing this election and trailing behind Trump but he has won the second-highest number of popular votes in American history following the record voter turnout for the 2020 election. The votes are much higher than the votes Trump received during his presidential win in the 2016 elections.
Also, Biden has won 306 electoral votes and Trump has 232, with 270 electoral votes required for a candidate to secure the White House.
There was also a huge voter turnout of Americans who chose to vote by mail option given the current circumstances of the pandemic and this has led to experts predicting that the vote count would continue long after Election Day.
The breakthrough news of Biden winning a record number of votes comes after he and his team were given permission on Tuesday (November 23) to begin the transition into power by the General Services Administration Administrator Emily Murphy.
Following this announcement, Trump took to Twitter to say that he recommended the move contradicting Murphy's claim that she was never pressured into beginning the transition, ABC News reports.
"I believe we will prevail! Nevertheless, in the best interest of our Country, I am recommending that Emily and her team do what needs to be done with regard to initial protocols, and have told my team to do the same," Trump tweeted shortly after GSA released its letter to the Biden team.
And even though the transfer of power is set to start on Tuesday, November 24, Trump tweeted to say that he "will never concede to fake ballots & 'Dominion'".
Biden has now gotten approval from SA which means his party will get access to more than $7 million in funding and make contact with counterparts with every federal agency prior to the transfer of power in January.
Denis McDonough, President Barack Obama's last Chief of Staff, said that Biden's team can also access classified information now including the Presidential Daily Brief.
He told ABC News ahead of the GSA's announcement Monday afternoon: "It's surely consistent with the spirit and the tradition and the practice of transitions, to make sure that the incoming team is fully briefed on a range of things they're going to confront."
