Johnny Depp arrived in Paris for the shooting of his first movie after the end of the defamation trial. The actor is filming for French director Maiwenn’s new historical drama is expected to begin shortly. Meanwhile, Depp's representatives have denied rumors of his return to the Pirates of The Caribbean franchise and called these claims 'made up.'
Johnny Depp Arrives In Paris To Begin Filming First Movie Since Amber Heard Trial
Reports revealed that Depp had been cast as French king Louis XV in Maiwenn’s film earlier this year and this marks the first film project Depp has worked on since his high-profile defamation win against Amber Heard earlier this month.
The actor touched down in the French capital on Monday (27 June) and was escorted into his hotel by security.
According to Metro, Maiwenn’s film - currently listed as being titled Jeanne du Barry on IMDb - will shoot at the Palace of Versailles and around Paris over the next three months.
Louis XV ruled over France for 59 years before being accused of corruption and debauchery towards the end of his reign and when he died he was really unpopular among the masses.
Maiwenn will star as Louis XV’s last mistress, Jeanne du Barry.
Depp has come to Paris only weeks after a Virginia jury gave the ruling in favor of the actor against his ex-wife where Amber Heard must pay the actor $15 million in damages over domestic abuse claims she made in a 2018 op-ed for The Washington Post, which they agreed defamed Depp.
The charges were later capped at $10.35 million and in a separate verdict Heard was awarded $2 million in damages via a counterclaim.
But on June 24, the attornies of both sides failed to reach a last-minute settlement with Heard's legal team hinting she’s likely to appeal the verdict, which would land them both back in court.
And while Depp has taken up a new role for his movie, we all know one role that he won't be taking up anytime soon and that is the role of Captain Jack Sparrow.
This week, Depp seemingly confirmed he won’t be appearing in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise ever again.
Depp's representative has denied rumors of his comeback as Captain Jack Sparrow, describing them as ‘made up’ to NBC.
Depp’s rep’s comments were referring to an article published on Pop Topic that claimed Disney was ‘hopeful’ Depp would return to the role and had been offered $301 million to do so.
Depp last played Jack Sparrow in 2017 for Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar's Revenge, and has become the face of the blockbuster franchise.
Reportedly, two more Pirates movies are in the pipeline, one of which will reportedly star Margot Robbie - in the works, and the 59-year-old actor is attached to neither of them.
