Johnny Depp In Tears As Comeback Film Receives Seven-Minute Standing Ovation At Cannes Film Festival
Johnny Depp couldn't but shed tears of emotion as the man received a seven-minute long standing ovation at the premiere of his comeback film Jeanne du Barry.
The actor, who plays King Louis XV in the period drama, teared up at the Cannes Film Festival on Tuesday as he was supported by the film's director Maïwenn.
Jeanne du Barry marks Johnny's official return to Hollywood after a three-year break from the industry following the dramatic defamation case against him by his ex-wife Amber Heard.
The trial proved to be a highlight of the year as the world witnessed the explosive court case on TV with stories from their disastrous marriage becoming the talk of the town for some time.
The Cannes 76th annual film festival also makes it Johnny's first red carpet appearance since he emerged as a winner of the defamatory trial.
As the actor made his entrance at the festival, he was greeted by a heartwarming round of applause.
As he arrived, fans were heard chanting his name before he was swarmed by attendees who welcomed him with open arms.
Many took to social media to cheer on their favorite celebrity.
"Shine Johnny! You deserve every moment of that recognition and appreciation," one person wrote.
A second added: "The audience at cannes screaming johnny depp's name when he arrived is music to my ears."
"He came just as I thought he would! Ponytail and black suit! He looks so handsome!" a third chimed in while a fourth added: "The comeback of our beloved king! All the love and success in the world to him and Jeanne du Barry!"
Jeanne du Barry portrays King Louis XV's love story as he falls in love with a prostitute, much to the horror of much of his family and court.
Louis XV was married to Queen of France Marie Leczinska but had a number of affairs. Jeanne was his final lover before he died.
Starring alongside Johnny, Maïwenn plays Jeanne who "uses her intelligence and allure to climb the rungs of the social ladder one by one."
This movie also holds meaning for Johnny Depp as it marks his return to the world of acting.
The actor faced a tumultuous time last year when his personal life became a speculation for the world when he set out to prove the defamation case against him wrong.
During the trial, Johnny shared that he lost out on his career and his friends and family and because of his messy past with ex-wife Amber Heard he does not know if he can ever get these things back.
Not only this but the actor also lost out on work during his divorce from Amber Heard and Disney even removed him from the movie Pirates of The Caribbean after the allegations of domestic violence were made against him by his ex-wife.
There were even rumors that Johnny was offered the Pirates Of The Caribbean movie again with a whopping $301 million for his comeback.
However, Depp had cleared during the defamation trial that even if he is offered a very good sum for the movie he will never return to Disney for work.
