Johnny Depp's team accuses Heard of putting on a 'performance of her life' and threatens her legal team that the upcoming cross-examination from their team will help differentiate the truth. Meanwhile, Heard's team has hit back and lambasted the actor for his behavior during the trial, accusing him of lacking courage while drawing ‘doodles’ and snickering.
Johnny Depp's Lawyers Says Amber Heard Has Given 'The Performance Of Her Life'
Johnny Depp's lawyers have attacked Amber Heard, stating that the actress is putting on the 'performance of her life in the trial.
The statement comes with a warning for Heard and her legal team: "The upcoming cross examination from Mr Depp's team will be most telling, and will certainly highlight the many fallacies Ms Heard has now attempted to pass off as fact throughout her convoluted testimony."
Responding to the warning, Amber Heard's legal team claimed that the defamation claim is ‘falling apart so rapidly that his counsel are turning from prosecutor to persecutor’.
“They boast that Mr Depp’s story has not changed,” the statement said.
The statement continued: “If so, since he lost the Domestic Violence Restraining Order and he resoundingly lost the libel case in the UK, perhaps he should consider a new strategy rather than the recycled approach of attacking the victim, and refusing to take responsibility for his own conduct.”
Heard's team has hit on Depp, claiming that the actor has an ‘inability to distinguish fact from fiction’.
Additionally, they called out the actor for his behavior during the trial, accusing him of lacking courage while drawing ‘doodles’ and snickering.
The trial has concluded for a week's recess and jurors have received a warning to strictly not look at social media during the break to ensure that their opinions and the decisions are not influenced in any manner.
Heard will continue her testimony in the defamation suit against her, filed by her ex-husband Johnny Depp for damages of $50 million.
Heard has counter-sued for $100 million.
Depp has sued Heard over 2018 op-ed written in The Washington Post in which the actress alleged that she is the victim of domestic abuse and indirectly targetted her then-husband Johnny Depp.
While Heard didn't name Depp in the article, it was 'reasonably inferred' that she was talking about her former husband.
Depp is suing Heard for ruining his career and negatively impacting his personal life. The actor told the court that he does not care about winning in the court, but he needs to tell the world the truth.
Depp has filed his suit over three statements in the article: the op-ed headline, how Heard described herself as 'a public figure representing domestic abuse', and the third was when she wrote she 'had the rare vantage point of seeing, in real-time, how institutions protect men accused of abuse'.
