Following the tragic death of Juliana Marins on a hike, her final text messages have been shared
In what every mother would consider a devastating nightmare, the final text sent by 26-year-old Juliana Marins—who died after falling into a volcano crater during a hiking trip—has now been revealed.
Juliana’s heartbroken mother has shared her daughter’s last message after the horrifying accident. The young Brazilian tourist had always loved traveling, something she often did with her family, and she was chatting with her mom throughout her latest adventure, sharing her excitement and energy about the journey.
Marins’s terrifying final moments were documented after she accidentally slipped from a cliff at a volcano located on the Indonesian island of Lombok. The fall happened early in the morning on June 21, and a search team was immediately deployed to try to locate and rescue her.
On Monday, June 23, the official Facebook page for Gunung Rinjani National Park shared that her location had been “successfully monitored using a drone,” stating she was seen stuck on a rock cliff approximately 500 meters down and appeared “visually motionless.”
Sadly, it was confirmed the very next day, June 24, that her body had been found and that she had not survived the fall.
Brazilian news outlet Fantástico has since obtained and shared her final messages. They were filled with excitement about her trip, but also touched on the emotional pull she felt for her family back home.

The Sun provided a translated version of her messages, which included: "Mami, I love you so much. I was heartbroken when we said goodbye."
She reassured her loved ones that she wasn’t scared at all.
The messages continued with: "In fact, that's the only thing that worries me: letting you, papi or my sister be disappointed. Other than that, I'm not afraid of much, much less trouble," she had written.
"I was raised by a woman who can solve any problem and who is not afraid to take the plunge and go after her dreams. I am like that too. I have different desires and dreams," Marins said in another part of her message. "I love you all very much! And I will always be grateful for all the support, care and affection. That is what makes me not afraid."
Her grieving family has turned to social media to express their frustration and anger. They accused the rescue team of acting too slowly, claiming their daughter might still be alive today had the response been faster.
They posted on June 25: "If the team had reached her within the estimated time of 7 hours, Juliana would still be alive."
"Juliana deserved much more! Now we are going to seek justice for her, because that is what she deserves! Don't give up on Juliana!"
The Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also addressed the tragic outcome, stating: "After four days of work, made difficult by adverse weather, ground and visibility conditions in the region, teams from the Indonesian Search and Rescue Agency found the body of the Brazilian tourist."
Reports say that Marins was hiking with a group led by a guide. At one point, she asked to take a short rest, but instead of waiting, the rest of the group continued moving forward. By the time the guide returned to check on her, it was already too late—she had fallen from the cliff.

Brazilian Senator Tereza Cristina expressed her sorrow in a statement: "The entire Brazil cheered and prayed that the rescue would arrive in time to save the young woman from Niterói, Juliana Marins, alive. Unfortunately, they could not save her. Very sad."
"Our condolences to her family and friends. And may the Brazilian government, through Itamaraty, demand an investigation of the facts and the punishment of those responsible in Indonesia."
"In practice, Juliana was left behind twice: on the dangerous trail and after she fell off the cliff."
Other hikers who have been on the same route have previously described the trail as “really hard,” adding to the concern about how challenging the climb can be, especially for less experienced trekkers.
