Justin Bieber has spoken out against the music industry, saying he was treated like a “product,” and is now calling for real change following what he says happened to him.

The singer behind hits like “Boyfriend” became famous at just 13 years old after Scooter Braun discovered videos of him singing on YouTube.

He was quickly signed to a label co-managed by Usher and Braun called RBMG, before Island Records took him on, with “Baby” turning him into a global star by the time he was only 14.

Over the years, Bieber has been open about his struggles with mental health and substance use, challenges he has spoken about publicly on several occasions.

Today, he says his life looks very different as a husband to Hailey Bieber, with the couple now raising a young son together.

He has recently revisited his experiences in the music industry, explaining that he wants to see it become safer and more honest for young artists.

In a recent Instagram post, Bieber reflected on his past while also sharing psalms and scripture, crediting his Christian faith with helping him through some of his darkest moments.

In the post, he wrote: "I grew up in a system that rewarded my gift but didn't always protect my soul."

"There were moments I felt used, rushed, shaped into something I didn't fully choose. That kind of pressure leaves wounds you don't see on stage. I've carried anger, I've asked God why."

"But Jesus keeps meeting me in the middle of the pain – not excusing what hurt me but teaching me how not to become bitter."

Alongside his religious reflections, the singer made it clear that he no longer sees himself as someone stuck in pain.

He explained that he was not “speaking as a victim still bleeding,” but rather as someone who feels restored.

He wrote: "Because I'm healed, I can forgive. Not to pretend injustice didn't happen, but so it doesn't keep living through me."

"I don't want revenge. I want redemption. I don't want to destroy the industry. I want it transformed."

"What happened to me was real but it doesn't get the final word. Jesus didn't help me cope, he restored my identity. I'm not a product. I'm not what the industry demanded. I'm a son."

Bieber said his reason for speaking out now is to ensure that the same harmful patterns do not continue through him or affect others coming up in the industry.

"I don't want to burn the music industry down. I want to see it made new – safer, more honest, more human,' he insisted."

Back in 2019, Bieber also shared a candid message about the reality of sudden fame and growing up in the public eye: "I went from a 13-year-old boy from a small town to being praised left and right by the world, with millions saying how much they loved me and how great I was."

"You hear these things enough as a young boy and you actually start believing it."

He admitted that despite praise and success, he often struggled with self-doubt and feeling undeserving: "People told me my whole life 'wow Justin u deserve that' and I personally have always felt unworthy. Like I was a fraud."

Justin has also said he feels less motivated to tour extensively now, explaining that he does not want to spend long periods of time away from Hailey and their son.
