That’s his name, don’t wear it out.
Kanye West is making it clear he wants people to stop calling him by his 'slave name' and start using his real name instead.
Known for his hit 'Flashing Lights,' Kanye always seems to be at the center of media attention.
His life events, from the widely covered breakup with Kim Kardashian, through a brief relationship with Julia Fox, to his recent marriage to Bianca Censori, consistently keep the public intrigued and chatting.
Currently, it's his demand about his name that is sparking discussions.
This peculiar request from West has been met with a lot of reactions online.
Someone commented: "That’s fine, I actually respect what people wish to be referred to as whether it be gender or name, that’s not a problem – but I still am not a fan of his antics."
Another person expressed disappointment, saying: "I’m sad that people don’t understand what he’s talking about."
Milo Yiannopoulos, West's chief of staff, wrote a letter insisting that the rapper should be addressed by his real name.
In a letter revealed by Page Six, the rapper is likened to "one of the most recognisable people in the world, on par with presidents and popes."
The letter also mentions that the 'Stronger' rapper didn't make the decision to change his name without serious consideration and is "potentially sacrificing some of the immense value captured" by his name.
This topic regarding West’s name change has been discussed before.
In 2021, a Los Angeles court approved West’s petition to legally change his name to the mononym Ye, as TMZ reported.
This change also included dropping his middle name.
Since then, the media have alternated between calling him Kanye and Ye, but Yiannopoulos is pushing for consistency.
He has been reaching out to various organizations, including "streaming platforms, publishers, stores, unions, lyrics websites, and data resellers," which he describes as some of the "most visible places," to ensure they use the rapper's chosen name.
In a discussion on BigBoyTV, the rapper shared his thoughts on the name change, explaining:
"I believe ‘ye’ is the most commonly used word in the Bible, and in the Bible it means you. So I’m you, I’m us, it’s us."
He also described how his name transitioned from Kanye, which he says means 'the only one', to simply Ye, reflecting "our good, our bad, our confused, everything."
After releasing his 2018 album titled "Ye," he hinted at his new name on the platform X, formerly known as Twitter, announcing, "I am the being formally known as Kanye West."
He finalized his statement with, "I am YE."
