#1 Teaching Kids About Safety Is Difficult

The Police Safety League put out a manual for parents and their children in the 1950s called 'It's Great To Be Alive' that was meant to be a fun guide for learning valuable life lessons. Instead, it looks like they were trying to scare the kids into following the straight and narrow path.

There's a fine line between being too strict and being too lenient. This manual must have mentally scarred many children since it's heavy on the dangers lurking out there no matter what turn you take. The cover is cute, with the children anxious to be getting out of school and outside to play. However, the lessons that followed could have been written in a more comforting manner as danger seems to be lurking on every page.

#10 Finally.. The Final Page Has A Good Message To Follow

But seriously, this manual totally put the brakes on anyone having fun in the 50s. No wonder everyone was so afraid. Let's hope they finally let loose in the 60s!
