Kim Davis For Time Magazine's Person Of The Year? Her Supporters Are Campaigning For It
#1 Kentucky clerk Kim Davis has been nominated for TIME’s Person Of The Year award, despite her notorious anti-gay views.
Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis has faded from the limelight in recent months but her lawyer hopes she will return in a big way as Time Magazine's Person of the Year.
#2 Davis is among those being considered for the title which goes to a newsmaker who has defined the year.
‘Who more than Kim Davis has influenced the news in the past year?' states the website for Liberty Counsel which has represented Davis in her losing legal battle to not issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples in her Kentucky county.
#3 Kim Davis inspired a nation and the world to fight for religious liberty when she chose a prison cell rather than sacrificing her conscience,’ it also states.
Davis was jailed for six days for defying a federal judge's order that she not stand in the way of marriage licenses being issued by her office. She has cited religious beliefs as the reason for not cooperating.
#4 Liberty Counsel chairman Mathew Staver has sent an email to supporters in which he likens Davis to Christian leaders including Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
‘Kim adhered to Kentucky law while standing for her First Amendment right to religious liberty and freedom of conscience,' he stated.
#5
King was Time's Person of the Year in 1963. Other past recipients have included Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin and Nikita Khrushchev and almost every president of the US since the list began in 1927.
#6 The Person of the Year will be revealed on NBC’s Today Show on 9 December.
The title has also gone to Queen Elizabeth II, Mikhail Gorbachev, Ted Turner, Newt Gingrich, Vladimir Putin, Mark Zuckerberg and Pope Francis. Last year it went to health care workers who helped stop the spread of Ebola virus disease.
