"Everyone messes up my name, so I give up, I don't care." admitted the Spider-Man actress in a candid interview
Kirsten Dunst Reveals The Right Way To Pronounce Her Name After Years Of Mistakes
It turns out that many of us have been saying Kirsten Dunst’s name incorrectly for years without even realizing it.
The Oscar-nominated actress, who is best known for playing Mary Jane Watson in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man films, Peggy Blumquist in season two of Fargo, and Marie Antoinette in Sofia Coppola’s period drama, recently opened up to Town & Country Magazine about how her name has been mispronounced her entire career — and why she doesn’t really let it bother her anymore.
In the interview, Dunst shared that pretty much everyone she encounters in England tends to get her name wrong.
The same thing happened with the Swedish and Hungarian crew she recently worked with while filming The Entertainment System Is Down.
"Everyone messes up my name, so I give up, I don't care." she laughed.
Over the years, she’s been called all sorts of variations, from “Kris-tin” to “Ker-sten,” but the correct version is actually “Keer-sten.”
"In England they don't really say my name right." she explained. "On the last set everyone said my name wrong, but there was like Swedish people and people from Hungary, and you just give up."
So now you know — if you ever happen to run into the Hollywood star on the street, the right way to say her name is “Keer-sten.”
If it helps, think of “Keir Starmer” to lock it in your memory, although that trick may or may not work depending on who you ask.
Dunst isn’t the only celebrity to speak up about her name being constantly mispronounced.
For example, Wednesday star Jenna Ortega reminded fans how to say “Rihanna” properly, while Demi Moore once surprised her followers by sharing the correct pronunciation of her own name.
But actress Emma Stone has dealt with a slightly different situation — and it’s not about how to pronounce her name, but rather what her actual name even is.
First things first: Emma isn’t even her real name.
This surprising detail came up in a conversation published by The Hollywood Reporter, where she was chatting alongside her co-star from The Curse, Nathan Fielder.
"Before we continue, I'd like to say something. Her name's Emily, but she goes by Emma professionally." Fielder explained. "So when there's people that don't know her, I end up saying Emma. But I'm going to just say Emily from here on."
When asked if anyone in Hollywood calls her Emily instead of Emma, she admitted: "When I get to know them, people that I work with do. It's just because my name was taken by another actress in the Screen Actors Guild. Then I freaked out a couple of years ago. For some reason, I was like, 'I can't do it anymore. Just call me Emily.' Nathan calls me Em, which is easier."
Stone went on to say that she thinks it would actually be “so nice” if fans recognized her by Emily when meeting her in public.
