Kirsten Bell shared on her husband's podcast 'Armchair Expert' about their family being so gassy that it masked the order of a severe problem.
Kristen Bell Said Her Family Farts So Much They Didn’t Smell Rot In Their Home
According to Kristen Bell, her family is so gassy that the smell of a big problem was covered up by their collective farts.
On her husband, Dax Shepard's podcast "Armchair Expert," the "The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window" star shared the extremely unsettling story on Monday.
Bell said that while she and Shepard sleep on an Ooler mattress pad, which uses a water-based system for heating and cooling and costs approximately $1,200 for the queen size on Amazon, the pair allows their two daughters, Delta, 7, and Lincoln, 8, to sleep on the floor in their bedroom every night.
Bell recalled that earlier in the week when the family was getting ready for bed, she smelled "something really raunchy."
“And I’m like, ‘Who’s farting?’ All three of them are like, ‘It’s me,’” she said. “So, my whole family has gas, big [deal].”
The rotten smell, though, was still present when Bell awoke the next morning.
“I wake up in the morning and I go, ‘Wow, nobody’s gas has dissipated, but it also smells like it’s burning,’” she said.
Bell hurriedly opened the french doors to their room after remarking that it was so horrible that she felt like she "needed oxygen."
Shepard acknowledged that at first, he thought his farts were to blame.
“I felt guilty because, minimally, I knew I contributed to it and perhaps was the leader of it,” he said.
Strangely, according to Bell, the smell was still present the following morning. She then cleaned her sheets, aired the space out once more, and lit some candles. However, the smell was still overpowering when she went to sleep that night.
“I’m like, ‘Does anybody else smell this, like, rotten garbage? Like burning garbage smell?’”
Bell claimed that Delta, who is "smell sensitive," was the only other family member to smell it.
“Lincoln and Dax can’t be bothered, so Delta and I are, well, being gaslit,” Bell said.
The couple searched the room with the help of their daughters but found no dog excrement or rotten food. The following day, Kristen asked Lincoln to assist her in identifying the cause of the smell.
Bell finally made the decision to inspect Shepard's "feet corner," the bottom corner of the mattress, and claimed to have "almost passed out" from the smell. It turns out that the source of the ratchet smell was their Ooler pad.
It turns out that Shepard unintentionally filled the bed with a protein shake after Bell explained that occasionally the bed needed to be filled with water to chill or heat it. Shepard said that every night, he typically maintains two glasses of water on his untidy nightstand. But when the mattress needed to be refilled in the middle of the night, he reached for an old protein shake he had there rather than a glass of water.
The protein drink, which Shepard acknowledged had likely been resting in the system for about 10 days, was flushed out of the pad as best they could. Even a power washer, according to Shepard, was used to remove the fluids.
The pair actually slept on it after finishing all of this because they were so tired out, despite the fact that they claimed the pad continued to smell.
Shepard claimed that he struggled to fall asleep and that he frequently dreamed about the pad, including the possibility that it contained maggots. He was shocked out of slumber.
The couple predicted they'll need to purchase a new pad.
Bell and Shepard are well-known for revealing too much personal information, but they aren't the only ones.
When they featured Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher on "Armchair Expert" in July 2021, they contributed to the popular discussion on how frequently one should bathe. In response to Kutcher and Kunis' comment that they only bathe their children when they spot "dirt on them," some celebrities felt compelled to reveal their showering routines to the world without necessity.
