Lana Del Ray Could Be Sued Over Copyright Issues

Potential Lawsuit

The Queen of melancholy, Lana Del Rey is facing infringement charges over the similarities between her song "Get Free" with British band Radiohead's "Creep." The band is reportedly suing the singer if she fails to give them writing credit or compensation.

"Get Free" is the last track of Rey's latest music album "Lust For Life."

Solving The Matter Outside Court

A source said both the parties are trying to sort out the situation to avoid going to the court. "It’s understood that Radiohead’s team are hoping for the band to either receive compensation or be credited on the list of songwriters to receive royalties. Both teams are trying to thrash it out behind the scenes to prevent it from going to court."

Writing Credits

Right now the writing credits of the album go to Lana, Kieron Menzies and Rick Nowels. If the matter goes further out of hands then Del Rey would have to go to court which won't be the first time for an artist to be facing copyright issues.

"Get Free" Is a Complete Rip-off Of "Creeps?"

Fans are already debating on social media whether "Get Free" is a rip off of "Creep" or not. One person wrote, "let’s start with get free. perhaps the most blatant song that easily reminded of another song: Radiohead / creep." While another fan considered the song, sample of Radiohead's "Creep."

While on other hand, fans are also defending Del Rey saying that "Everyone’s saying this sounds like Creep by Radiohead. I think the melody might be inspired by it and similar, but it’s definitely not a complete rip-off."

Del Rey Has Decided To Take The Matters To Court

The song is the last track on Del Rey's latest album "Lust For Life" and upon releasing it directly hit the top charts in US and UK. The singer, herself have confirmed that lawsuit and on her social media account posted, "It’s true about the lawsuit. Although I know my song wasn’t inspired by Creep, Radiohead feel it was and want 100% of the publishing - I offered up to 40 over the last few months but they will only accept 100. Their lawyers have been relentless, so we will deal with it in court."

Del Rey has announced publicly that they will deal with the case in court.

Radiohead Faced Similar Copyright Issues In 1992 Over Similar Song

According to reports, "Radiohead" had to face similar copyright issues upon the release of their song "Creep" in 1992. As the report states, there were similarities between there song and Hollies "The Hair That I Breathe." The lawsuit was settled out of court with Radiohead giving some of the publishing rights to songwriters Albert Hammond and Mike Hazlewood.
