As with most stories that come from the subreddit, r/pettyrevenge, we're convinced one should not mess with OP.

When their landlord ticked them off by refusing to pay for repairs. He went nuclear.

OP didn't have an issue with his rental or with the landlord until this event even though the building was generally slow to respond to minor complaints.

It wasn't until a leakage in their unit from a faulty AC above them that the OP decided to pursue the landlord and get the problem fixed.

The landlord however was sitting on a particularly thorny chair that day and let drop these fighting words, "Sue Me".

Needless to say, he was not going to fix the AC or the leakage.

OP decided to do him one better and started working on his elaborate plan. His rental was for an IT company that ran a server rack. OP currently had it optimized to use as little electricity as possible while remaining efficient.

He remembered that his electric was covered as part of the lease agreement and decided to change his settings up a bit.

He said he usually kept the more optimized settings out of care for the planet and to help save the building money. Well, no more.

He decided to keep the servers running rather than winding them down every night.

But he didn't stop there. He decided that he wanted to get into the crypto game while he was at it. He used the servers dedicated to password cracking for mining instead. For context, he works for a cybersecurity company.

So OP was not only costing the landlord money, he was also making it.

He wasn't sure just how much power he was using but estimated the monthly costs to go up to $500.

He also decided that any proceeds he was going to get from the mining operation were going to go toward food banks.

Commenters had the perfect response for when the landlord would come a-knocking enquiring about the electric bill.

Some even called him the 'modern-day Robin Hood'.

And if you were wondering how much money OP made, the answer is a little disappointing. He revealed in a comment "About 30 cents".

Some however were not quite happy with OP's revenge strategy saying that the cost to the planet was probably the highest in this equation.
