Lily Allen has spoken candidly about her split from David Harbour, including why she decided to get a boob job shortly after the marriage ended
Lily Allen has shared how the end of her marriage to Stranger Things actor David Harbour sent her through an intense emotional period and also took a serious toll on her finances.
The singer, who ended the marriage toward the end of 2024, has been open with fans about the difficult months that followed, including the deeply personal reasons behind her decision to get a boob job not long after leaving a trauma center.
The 40-year-old first mentioned the surgery on her podcast Miss Me?, where she described it as a small personal “glow up,” but in a recent interview with The Observer, she went into more detail about what was really driving that choice.
"Because I've always been really small up top, I was worried about becoming really bottom-heavy. And so I felt like..." she explained.
She then added: "This is how I talk to myself! I felt like if I got boobs, it would make me feel better about gaining weight. So that was my reasoning."
The surgery came shortly after a two-week stay at a trauma center in Nashville, Tennessee, which Allen described as both “f*ing excruciatingly painful” and genuinely helpful at the same time.
She said that period marked one of the hardest chapters of her life, both mentally and physically.
During that time, Allen also visited Kris Jenner’s plastic surgeon in Manhattan, saying the move was part of an effort to reconnect with what she described as her authentic self.
She admitted that much of that stretch is hazy in her memory and revealed she was prescribed the painkiller Percocet, which is typically used for moderately severe pain, despite being sober.
Allen, who shares two daughters from a previous relationship, described the divorce as “devastating,” explaining that it left her unable to sleep, struggling with her appetite, and facing financial strain that she said was “costing a huge amount of money.”
She has also said that the emotional fallout became a driving force behind her creative work.
Her latest album, West End Girl, draws heavily from the breakdown of her relationship with Harbour, who she has alleged was unfaithful during the marriage.
It is her first album release since 2017, and since the split, Allen has been spotted back in the UK after returning to London, driving a $160,000 Porsche while carrying a $22,000 Hermès bag.
The public sightings came as fans connected the themes of wealth, loss, and reinvention in her music with what she has shared about her personal life.
In one track, titled “Madeline,” Allen takes aim at the woman she believes had an affair with Harbour and also references the open nature of her marriage.
One verse includes the lines: "We had an arrangement / Be discreet and don't be blatant / There had to be payment / It had to be with strangers / But you're not a stranger, Madeline."
Allen has said the name used in the song is a pseudonym, while costume designer Natalie Tippett has denied any long-term affair, calling the claims false and saying she felt “extremely violated.”
Responding publicly, Tippett wrote on her Instagram Story: "I did not have a three year affair with anyone. I'm unsure why this person wants so badly to pit people against me or create this narrative that we both know is false based on the actual messages that I have saved between us. The same ones that have now been referenced in a song without my consent."
