A man was arrested after he was caught on camera pulling a gun on a pastor inside a church.
This unsettling event happened on Sunday, May 5, at Jesus' Dwelling Place Church in North Braddock, Pennsylvania.
While Reverend Glenn Germany was delivering a sermon about the 'enemies of God,' a man in the congregation attempted to shoot him.
This incident was not only witnessed by those present in the church but also by people watching the sermon through a live stream.
During this tense moment, the recording shows a man standing up and pointing a gun at Reverend Germany.
In an interview with Good Morning America, Germany recounted the terrifying moment, saying the man "pulled the trigger," but the gun didn't fire because it was "jammed" – an event he described as "a miracle of God."
Reverend Germany expressed his gratitude in a statement to CBS Pittsburgh:
"I thank God because only God stopped and jammed his gun."
Before the gunman could attempt another shot, a church deacon named Clarence McCallister bravely intervened.
He quickly tackled the assailant to the ground.
McCallister later reflected on his actions, saying: "That's how a man reacts. Something needed to be done and I jumped up there and handled my business."
He also credited his bravery to divine intervention: "I thank God for giving [me] the courage to do what [I] did."
The police arrived swiftly at the scene, and they arrested a 26-year-old man named Bernard Junior Polite.
In a subsequent conversation, Bernard reportedly apologized for his actions, which Reverend Germany accepted, indicating a moment of reconciliation.
Reflecting on the traumatic experience, Germany shared: "The thing that hurt me the most, the things that bring tears to my eyes, is I watched my daughter who's seen it all.
"But I still had to be strong for her but I couldn't take it, just seeing her [...] it's hard for me to digest." Germany's daughter, only 14, witnessed the entire ordeal.
Later that same day, the Eastern Regional Mon Valley Police Department conducted a search at a residence on Stokes Avenue in North Braddock following reports of a shooting.
There, they found a 56-year-old man, Derek Polite, who had suffered a fatal gunshot wound.
Derek was identified as a resident of the same property where Bernard Polite also lived.
As of now, the police have not established an official connection between the church incident and the fatal shooting at the home, nor between Bernard and Derek's death.
