A man who claims that his mother sexually abused him starting when he was only 10 years old has opened up about what his next steps will be if he discovers his younger brother is actually his son.

Las Vegas resident Logan Gifford is just 11 years older than his little brother. He has been raising him since their mother, Doreene Gifford, was sent to prison for a minimum of eight to 20 years in 2015. She was convicted on charges of attempted sexual assault, incest, and lewdness with a child under 14.

Even while behind bars, she continued to claim she was innocent. She entered an Alford plea, meaning she did not admit guilt but acknowledged that prosecutors had enough evidence to convict her if the case went to trial.

She was released on parole in June 2024 after serving part of her sentence.

Now at 26 years old, Logan is fighting to gain full legal custody of his 15-year-old brother. The two currently live together and have cut off all contact with both their mother and father.

In an update shared on his GoFundMe page on August 2, Logan revealed that he had been granted “temporary sole physical and legal custody” of his younger brother.

However, a recent conversation raised a troubling question for him — could he actually be his brother’s biological father? This concern led him to arrange a paternity test through a private lab.

The DNA results, however, were inconclusive. They showed a 99.9 percent match to both Logan and his father, which means the question of paternity is still unresolved. Logan says his fight to uncover the truth is far from over.

Speaking with UNILAD, Logan was asked if his relationship with his brother would change if a paternity test confirmed he was actually the boy’s father.

Logan said: "It wouldn't change how I interact with him. I have told him numerous times that he is and always will be my brother, regardless of how the test comes back."

"I told him I have no desire for my title to change and don't want to be called dad. I already am that child's father figure in more ways than one."

When it comes to how his brother might handle the news if it turned out to be true, Logan admitted he isn’t sure what his reaction would be.

He continued: "I can pray for the best, but my family and I are prepared if he needs a little extra help to get through this. I have also had other family members with whom we are still in contact, hope that the results come back positive, just so the case can be over."

"That has been a difficult thing to hear because that means that I want my brother to be the product of my abuse with my mother."

"That is a heavy burden and quite a bitter pill to swallow."

He added: "I would accept it no matter what, in the end, because this is the first time my brother felt like he had someone in his corner looking out for his interests."

"It would sting, but it's not about me. It is about him getting answers to why he was born this way."

The teenager is already aware of the questions surrounding his biological father. Logan explained that his brother is seeking answers about why he was born with what doctors describe as “cognitive delays.”
