The man who survived being cut in half during a forklift accident has shared a heartbreaking update about his life, admitting that he hopes to start a family even though the path forward is complicated. His story continues to draw attention because of how openly he speaks about the long-term effects of the accident and the way it reshaped his future.

Back in September 2019, Loren Schauers was only 18 years old when he became involved in a horrific workplace incident while working as a laborer. The event changed everything for him, both physically and emotionally, as he faced challenges he never could have imagined at such a young age.

The American worker had been driving a forklift across a bridge in Great Falls, Montana, when the vehicle suddenly veered off its path. He then fell nearly 50 feet to the ground, an impact that left him with catastrophic injuries and set the stage for the difficult medical journey that followed.

The damage was so severe that Loren underwent a hemicorporectomy, a life-saving procedure in which everything below his waist was removed after his pelvis was crushed beyond repair. Doctors had no other way to save him, and the surgery marked the beginning of a recovery filled with new challenges.

Since the accident, Loren has documented his progress and day-to-day experiences with his wife, Sabia Reiche, sharing updates with a growing online audience. Many people follow their journey, often inspired by their commitment to honesty and resilience as they adapt to a new way of living.

In earlier conversations, the now 24-year-old spoke openly about wanting to start a family with Sabia. They had considered adopting or using a donor to make that possible, and the idea of raising children together had once seemed within reach.

However, Loren has now shared with the Daily Mail that he no longer believes starting a family is realistic for them, even though the desire is still there. The admission was difficult for him to make, and it reflected how much their situation has shaped their long-term plans.

"We would like to have a family of our own but given how much of a problem my care has been, I don't really see it in the cards for us," he explained.

"Unless we really buckle down, start saving and planning for a future with kids, having a caregiver in place of Sabia for my care and then taking care of kids."

Sabia, whom Loren married in 2021, serves as his full-time caregiver, and the couple has spoken in the past about how they do not get out much but still feel they are “doing great together.” Their relationship has remained strong despite the heavy responsibilities they manage each day.

And Loren added to the Mail: "With all the extracurricular activities that come with raising children, it really wouldn't be fair of us to bring a child or adopt a child in life and saddle them with a lifestyle like ours, just not conducive for raising children in my opinion."

During an earlier video posted on their YouTube channel, Sabia was asked: "Is your situation now anything like you expected after the accident?"

She answered: "Yes and no, I saw us still being together and settled down but I don't think I necessarily I guess had a vision for the future."

"It's just always kind of been in the now since the accident happened so like when it happened I knew I wasn't going anywhere and then we went through the processes of the hospital and rehab."

She continued: "I don't know I guess since the accident happened I haven't really thought farther ahead than a day at a time so I hoped we'd still be together but I didn't really have any visions for the future."

Loren then responded by agreeing with his wife entirely, explaining that what she described is “exactly how it's been” for them over the past few years. His comments reflected how closely they have faced each challenge together while learning to navigate their new reality.
