Lottery Winner Asks Reddit If She Is An A-Hole For Not Wanting To Share Jackpot With Husband's Friend
A Redditor asked people if she was an a-hole for not wanting to split her jackpot win with her husband's friend.
The 30-year-old female came to Reddit to share her story with the community. She told the Redditors she played the lottery first time last year and has been playing casually since then.
OP played casually and never really thought she would win anything big.
But it seemed like luck was in OP's favor as a few months ago, she checked her ticket numbers and found them to be matching with the winning digits.
OP could not believe her luck and so told her husband about it. The couple checked the numbers multiple times and it was right. OP really had won the lottery!
The two decided to keep the news to themselves and wait a few months before making any decision about the money.
OP and her husband discussed what they would do with the money.
It was during one of these discussions when OP's husband - Adam suggested they should split money with his bestfriend and business partner, Tim.
OP shared her husband and his bestfriend had dreamt of making it big together ever since middle school.
Adam thought it was good to share the money with his bestfriend so that they could enter their new life journey together with Tim. And also because it would look believable to people how they made so much money if they shared it with Tim's family.
OP did not agree with her husband.
She thought telling Tim about the money could jeopardize OP and her husband's safety.
OP further shared the reasons for not feeling comfortable with her husband's plan to add Tim and his wife as members of their LLC.
Adam, on the other hand, thought her wife was being selfish and he would not want to enjoy the new lifestyle without his friend. OP suggested they could later give a part of the money to Tim's family without telling them about the lottery.
Redditors really helped OP in knowing she was right.
One of them suggested OP to call an attorney and a financial advisor. And to 'keep the money out of her husband's business'.
Another told OP not to do anything without getting her finances reviewed.
One of the Redditors shared that it would be insane of OP's husband to give away 1/3 of the winnings. They asked OP to get the money somewhere so her husband could not move it without her knowledge.
