According to a poll, over half of millennial and Gen Z women view it as a red flag in a relationship if their partner listens to "The Joe Rogan Experience" podcast or refuses to watch the "Barbie" movie.
Majority Of Women Find It A Turn Off If Their Partner Listens To Joe Rogan’s Podcast
This survey, conducted by Change Research in August-September 2023, a polling firm based in the Bay Area, gathered responses from 1,033 registered voters aged 18 to 34.
It covered various topics including political views, dating preferences, and opinions on cultural trends and the upcoming presidential election.
The poll found that 55% of young women see it as a negative if a partner listens to "The Joe Rogan Experience," and 53% are turned off by a partner who won't watch Greta Gerwig’s "Barbie" movie.
The most significant red flag for these women, however, is if a potential partner identifies as a MAGA Republican, with a striking 76% considering it a major issue.
Other red flags for women include partners lacking hobbies, those who say "All Lives Matter," believe in only two genders, and are so uninterested that they never ask for details.
For millennial and Gen Z men, the biggest turnoff is dating someone who identifies as a Communist, with 64% viewing it as a red flag.
Surprisingly, 59% also find it offputting if a partner aligns with MAGA Republican ideals.
Additional turnoffs for men include lack of hobbies (60%), an interest in astrology (41%), and saying "Black Lives Matter."
In terms of positive traits, both women and men highly value partners who read, with 95% of women and 91% of men favoring this trait.
Women also prefer partners who look for the best deals, support "Black Lives Matter," look better in person, take candid photos, and identify as liberal.
Men, on the other hand, value partners who look better in person, seek the best deals, believe in only two genders, and own a gun.
They also appreciate partners who prefer cow milk over non-dairy alternatives, aren't active on social media, and identify as conservative.
This variation in dating preferences aligns with the differing political leanings of young men and women.
The survey revealed that millennial and Gen Z women tend to be more left-leaning than their male counterparts, with 41% of women identifying as politically progressive compared to 24% of men.
Eleven percent of men support Donald Trump's "MAGA" politics, against only 3% of women.
Cultural preferences also differ significantly between men and women.
Men are more inclined towards conservative podcasts like "The Joe Rogan Experience" and "The Ben Shapiro Show," while women prefer more left-leaning content such as "The Daily" by the New York Times and Ira Glass’ "This American Life."
Regarding the "Barbie" movie, part of the "Barbenheimer" moviegoing trend, 31% of all respondents believe the film starring Margot Robbie is feminist, only 2% see it as sexist, and nearly half (47%) consider it "just a movie."
The poll also highlights young voters' bleak view of the current state in the US, irrespective of their educational background.
Only 4% believe the country is on the right track.
Many express doubts about owning a home, retiring, maintaining an emergency fund for three months, starting a business, or having as many children as they desire.
A significant number of respondents also lack confidence in their ability to stop living paycheck to paycheck, take annual vacations, afford groceries of their choice, buy nice clothes, or own a reliable car.
