Shabnam H. Khawja, an LA-based make-up artist, recently shared her personal hack for helping to 'mattify the face'
In a video tutorial, Shabnam rubs the stick over her bare face before patting on Bio-Oil and applying her make-up
But doctors warn that the technique could actually lead to breakouts or allergic reactions
#1 Interesting tip: Shabnam H. Khawja, an LA-based make-up artist, recommends using deodorant on your face to stop shine in a new tutorial
LA-based make-up artist and beauty vlogger Shabnam Khawja, has created a video tutorial recommending that people use a stick of deodorant applied to their face before putting on make-up because it helps give the face a matte finish for applying make-up.
'Before any accusations this is a brand new deodorant I bought,' she explains in the caption for the clip. 'Putting a stick of deodorant on your face may sound ridiculous, but the powdery ingredients can help mattify the face.'
#2 Swiping away: The artist is sure to emphasize she is using a fresh stick before sliding it over her face
She then adds: 'Also, some natural deodorants include mineral salts that can help dry out zits and bacteria-fighting ingredients that can also curb breakouts.'
In the short tutorial, uploaded to Instagram for her more than 180,000 followers, Shabnam waves a stick of Dove deodorant at the screen before applying it over her cheeks, chin, nose and forehead.
Next, she applies a dab of Bio-Oil to her face, explaining in the caption that: 'Bio-Oil helps diminish the appearance of scars and also helps even out skin tone.'
#3 Hitting the spots: She applies the deodorant to her nose, cheeks, forehead and chin with short swipes
#5 A little addition: In the next step she adds Bio-Oil, which she says 'helps diminish the appearance of scars and also helps even out skin tone'
#6 Gentle: She then pats the oil onto her face before moving on to her make-up application
She goes on to apply a layer of foundation before contouring her face and adding a light pink lipstick to finish off the look.
Since being posted last week, the video has been liked more than 5,000 times and received hundreds of comments.
But while Shabnam concludes the video looking incredibly glamorous, the beauty trick might not be something just anyone should try.
#7 Good to go: She goes on to apply a layer of foundation and do some contouring to demonstrate how the technique stops shine coming through
#8 Last look: Although she concludes the video looking gorgeous, doctors don't recommend trying the technique
#9 Not recommended: Unfortunately, doctors say that using deodorant could actually cause breakouts and irritation or even allergic reactions
For one thing, deodorant does not, on its own, prevent shine - it is antiperspirants that keep excess sweat at bay.
But beyond that, experts claim that applying deodorant to the face can actually do hard to the skin.
California dermatologist Dr. Christine Choi Kim told Seventeen that: 'Using either an antiperspirant or deodorant on your face could lead to irritation, allergic reactions, and possibly breakouts.'
She instead recommended that those looking to mattify their skin stick to products made for just that purpose, such as mattifying gel.
