A single dad found himself at war with the school when a teacher tried to take his autistic daughter's support toy against her will. He threatened to sue them if action wasn't taken against the teacher.
Defending and protecting your children is like your first job as a parent. So when this single dad was called to school to defend his daughter after she was in an altercation with a teacher, he decided to go nuclear.
OP stated that his daughter had autism which means that she would need special assistance and accommodations to be made for her in certain situations. Other than that, she was usually fine regulating her emotions.
While Sarah did not need a lot of assistance, OP did agree she had trouble with her temper and that she was protective of her personal items.
One of those items was a penguin plush by the name of Percy which had become a sensory tool that would help calm her down if agitated.
One day during math class at Sarah's school, another child had a meltdown. This was when another teacher referred to as Mr. A decided to approach Sarah.
He asked Sarah to give her plushie to Milo. When she refused, he started pushing and trying to convince her.
Sarah and her tablemate confirmed later that his tone was condescending. He then tried to take the plush by force but Sarag slapped his hand and screamed at him. Mr. A then called security on a teenager who escorted her to the office.
OP then arrived at the school and had a meeting with the school counselor, the principal, the teacher, Sarah, and her tablemate.
Turns out, Mr. A assumed that the plush Sarah was holding was the property of the school. He said that he was following school procedures of removing the item 'gently'.
Once all was said and done, OP asked what the school was going to do to deal with Mr. A for trying to steal from his daughter. The others were appalled at this suggestion and called Sarah's reaction a 'violent outburst'.
They doubled down and said that she had 'attacked a teacher' and that OP should be thankful they were suspending and not expelling her.
OP was obviously unhappy with the whole situation and threatened to sue the school if no action was taken. The school dared him to do so.
When OP spoke to a friend, he called him a Karen.
Commenters were firmly on OP's side, urging him to escalate the problem to the superintendent.
Others cleared up that being a Karen meant demanding unreasonable things and OP was just being a good parent.
Some even pointed out that even if the plush had belonged to the school why would the teacher not get a new plush, rather than agitating another student?
Another dad chimed in saying that the teacher never should have approached OP's daughter since she was clearly already using the toy.
