Man Arrested For Dragging Girlfriend 50ft Down Road Through Car Window For Refusing Lift Home
A jealous boyfriend who dragged his partner 50 feet down the road through his car window was sentenced to prison.
When his longtime girlfriend Hermione Deakin declined to give him a ride home after a party, 23-year-old Michael Caine lost his cool.
His victim tried to pay him for his wasted petrol and told him she wanted to stay.
But Caine said ‘No you’re f***ing not’ and grabbed her arm as she leaned into his car window.
Then, according to Mold Crown Trial testimony, he grabbed his girlfriend before his car "went into a wheelspin" and raced off "15 meters down the road."
Miss Deakin was being dragged along while hanging "halfway in and halfway out" of the automobile, according to prosecutor Ember Wong.
According to testimony given in court, Caine "became fixated" on the person she would be attending the party with and their plans for Bangor, North Wales.
She had "changed her mind" about returning home in April of last year when he arrived at the party at around 4.30 am to pick her up.
Before she fell to the ground when the car eventually stopped, she was captured on camera attempting to get free of Caine's grip.
The court was told how Caine left Miss Deakin, who was "hysterical," with cut knees that were "covered in blood," before fleeing the scene.
Miss Deacon stated in a victim impact statement that she felt "lucky to be alive" and that she "could have so easily been squashed between two cars."
Miss Deakin, who had dated Caine for four and a half years, was scarred and now "lives in constant fear."
Caine, of Old Colwyn, admitted to reckless driving and was given a 10-month prison term.
Judge Niclas Parry said: ‘You were in a temper because your partner had dared to change her mind and your controlling behavior dictated that was not going to happen.’
‘You grabbed her by the throat and made it clear in abusive terms that she would be doing what you wanted.’
‘These were not simple scratches, they resemble burn injuries as she was dragged along the road.’
‘Mercifully, it could have been so much worse had she gone under that car and suffered real catastrophic injuries – or worse.’
A lifetime restraining order and two years, five months driving ban were imposed on Caine.
