Relationships can be hard work even when your husband isn't trying to randomly open your marriage. This woman however knew just how to handle her unique situation.

OP said she had the fairytale life before her husband decided to upend it with a seemingly simple question.

I (f40) really thought everything was great between us(m40). We love each other (or should I say I loveED him?) more than anything.

We have two beautiful children a big home and great jobs. We have [a] great [love life] and we have a lot in common.

Her husband however was not as content with their situation as she was.

Last week he told me that he wanted to ask me something but that I mustn’t take it the wrong way.

He asked whether she would be willing to open the marriage. This of course led to a barrage of questions on OPs end wondering why their relationship was no longer enough.

He wanted to open the marriage. I started crying. Did he not love me anymore? Is he not attracted to me? Is he cheating? Why not divorce me then?

Her husband said that their relationship was solid as ever but he wanted to do something 'new'.

His answer was no, no, no and no. It’s not about love or happiness because he has both. Just something new and exciting.

OP however was not happy with that answer and decided to fight fire with fire.

I was distraught the whole day and later that evening I downloaded Tinder. I uploaded one of my least flattering pictures. Wrote that I’m a mother of 2, (f3 & m1) and that I was in an open marriage.

After she downloaded Tinder, the matches started coming in. Soon she had over 2000.

I showed my husband my profile. After one hour I got over 100 matches. Next day it was around 2000.

This is when the husband changed his tune. Clearly, he had not thought his entire plan through.

My husband got very angry and demanded I deleted the app. He said he got the point and to forget about it. Now he is back to “normal” but I can't forget about it.

OP was left wondering why he would even suggest this in the first place if he wasn't prepared for all the consequences.

It is so weird because he never was comfortable with me getting attention. He always dislikes it when men pay attention to me or flirt/be nice. What was he thinking opening the marriage was?

If he wants something new and exciting tell Him to go skydiving.

I swear, every guy that wants to open their relationship assumes he’ll be banging 20yr olds while his wife sits around hoping a guy hits on her. I don’t know if it’s insane ego or just naïveté. Then they all panic when they see guys want their wife and call it off.

It's a very common thing with men. They think opening the marriage will let them have all the sex they want with other women but eventually realize, no one wants a 40yo man who's married and just looking for sex.
