A man from Arkansas who allegedly amputated his limb in front of his child was detained early last month, along with his wife.

The incident happened on August 2 in Boone County, Arkansas, and was first covered on Monday by a nearby radio station, KTLO. According to documents obtained by the station, Sandy Cox, 30, and Shannon Cox, 48, were both charged with one felony count of first-degree endangering the welfare of a minor after being detained following the event.

A county investigator was sent to the couple's house on August 2 in response to reports that Cox had amputated his leg, the report said. When the investigator arrived at the house, Cox was naked and laying in front of it with one of his legs missing.

According to investigators, the man used a "chop saw" to cut off the leg, leaving large amounts of blood all over the house, on the walls, and on the floor in a trail leading to the saw.

Sandy Cox left the couple's little daughter in the care of her husband while she went to see friends, thus she was not present when her husband had the incident. Officers found that the couple's unidentified daughter, whose age and identity have not been made public, was there during her father's self-amputation.

According to investigators, Sandy Cox claimed that her husband had been acting "odd" and portraying Jesus Christ the whole day before the event, telling his wife she "ought to get right with the Lord."

According to authorities, Sandy Cox later said that her husband's behavior had escalated to a dangerous level, with Shannon Cox claiming to be Satan himself and threatening to "twist her head off."

Sandy Cox claimed in the report that she had gone to her friend's house because of concern that Cox may kill her. She stated, according to the KTLO report, that she left her daughter at home because she had no concern about her safety.

To get to Cox Medical Center South in Springfield, Missouri, Shannon Cox was transported by air ambulance up north.

Ashes were discovered in the backseat, the back window was broken, and a 20-pound propane canister was sitting on the car's battery when the vehicle was discovered outside the house during a subsequent examination. The relationship between the vehicle and the incident is currently unclear.

Cox and his wife were later released after paying $10,000 bail.
