The Guinness Book of World Records has now named Iranian-born 20-year-old Afshin Esmaeil Ghaderzadeh the smallest man in history. At 2 ft 1.68 in (65.24 cm) tall, he is roughly the size of a watermelon.
The title of smallest man in the world just went to a new winner.
With a height of 2 feet, 1.68 inches (65.24 cm), Afshin Esmaeil Ghaderzadeh, 20, holds the record, according to Guinness World Records.
The previous record holder for the smallest man was Colombian native Edward Nio Hernandez, who was 2 feet, 4.38 inches (72.1 cm) tall.
Life hasn't always been simple for Afshin, who was born in a small hamlet in Bukan County, West Azerbaijan Province, Iran.
Even though his family works hard, they occasionally struggle to pay for his living expenses, medications, and therapy. He lives in a modest home.
“Just thinking about being part of the Guinness World Records family is like a dream. I struggle to believe it sometimes. It is like you wake up the next day and the entire world now knows who you are. That’s magical,” Afshin said.
“I like the attention I get from people. It makes me feel special."
“My dream is to be able to help my parents. This global recognition might help me achieve my dream.”
Afshin has struggled with reading due to his inability to attend school, but he is happy to have just just mastered writing his name.
He was also happy because a buddy had recently given him a phone as a present, giving him more connectivity.
Afshin added: “Phones in general are heavy to use for a long time, yet I still manage.”
He is quite friendly and outgoing, which makes him highly well-liked by the people in his hamlet.
Afshin must constantly be accompanied by one of his parents since he is unable to go about the hamlet alone. Although he can walk, he occasionally wants to be carried.
He added: “I know who the Tallest man living in the world is. I might fit in the palms of his hands.”
On the day of measurements, Dr. Bindu Devarajan, Editor-in-Chief of Guinness World Records Craig Glenday, Official Adjudicator Kanzy El Defrawy, and others were present.
On the day of the verification, measurements were taken three times, yielding the precise record height.
“It's been a privilege to meet with Afshin and his family, and to confirm him as the new world's shortest-living adult man,” Craig said.
“At just 2ft 1.68in, he not only comfortably beats the existing record but he's also one of the shortest men to ever hold this title."
“This is one of those fundamental human-body superlatives, and receiving this official confirmation is a potentially life-changing moment in this charming young man's life."
“Judging by the enthusiasm he's shown during his visit to Dubai, he's more than ready to enjoy his new-found celebrity status and become a household name."
“He's already ticked one item off his bucket list: to visit the top of the Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building.”
