Imagine getting a tattoo as a tribute to your favorite TV show, only to later discover it has a completely different meaning.
This is exactly what happened for a man who decided to ink a pineapple on his calf, accompanied by the phrase 'I know you know', in homage to the TV series "Psych" which aired from 2006 to 2014.
The show featured James Roday Rodriguez as Shawn Spencer, a detective who fakes psychic abilities.
Pineapples became a recurring element in "Psych," starting from an impromptu scene in the pilot episode where Rodriguez interacted with the fruit.
Dulé Hill, who portrayed Gus, explained that this scene highlighted Rodriguez's ability to improvise with available props, leading to the inclusion of a pineapple in almost every episode.
For a die-hard fan of "Psych," getting a pineapple tattoo seemed like a perfect way to honor the show.
But unfortunately, it also has another meaning.
However, the "Psych" fan soon learned that an upside-down pineapple is also a symbol associated with the swinging lifestyle, often indicating a 'swinging party' at someone's home.
Realizing the dual meaning of his tattoo, the Reddit user thought about covering up the tattoo and sought suggestions online, expressing respect for swingers but clarifying he wasn't part of that community.
"Long story short, it’s a Psych™ reference that I just love, but more than that it’s 100% a swinger thing(Oop)."
"Didn’t realize it at the time, and my heart goes out to swingers, but sadly I’m not part of the lifestyle.
"Any help? Thinking of keeping the pineapple, but the words just need to go unfortunately."
Online users came up with humorous and creative suggestions, such as adding 'that I am not a swinger' or simply placing 'Psych!' next to the tattoo to clarify its intention.
Many pointed out that the accompanying quote added to the suggestive misunderstanding.
In a follow-up post, the original poster thanked fellow "Psych" fans and decided against modifying the tattoo.
"It’s me, the OP. Thank you fellow Psych-O’s I will not be covering it up. Cmon son."
So, What would you do?
