A man in Colombia took proposing to a whole new level by redefining the term "shotgun wedding."
He orchestrated an elaborate armed robbery as part of his plan to propose to his girlfriend, a moment that is now making waves on Instagram.
The startling scene, captured on video last Saturday in Cali, begins with a red car stopping at an intersection.
Suddenly, a pedestrian and a motorcycle block its path, creating a tense situation as reported by Jam Press.
Two individuals then approach the car and order the occupants, a man and a woman, to "get out."
Soon after, two more men on another motorcycle arrive, escalating the situation to what appears to be a carjacking.
The visibly frightened couple are then forcibly removed from the car, with one of the men brandishing what seems to be a concealed handgun at the woman.
The situation becomes even more intense as two gang members force the male driver to kneel in the street.
However, in an unexpected twist, the shouting stops and the kneeling man presents a wedding ring, revealing that the entire "robbery" was a dramatic marriage proposal setup.
The collaborators in the plan erupt into applause and cheers, celebrating their successful execution of the audacious fake robbery turned proposal.
Initially upset at being tricked, the woman reacts by playfully smacking her now-fiancé, but soon she is overcome with tears of happiness at the significant turn of events.
It seems the prankster did indeed succeed in stealing her heart.
The video concludes with the woman apparently saying yes to the proposal as they share a loving embrace, cheered on by the surrounding crowd.
Many social media users were captivated by this bold prank, with one admirer calling it "the best proposal."
"You have to love someone wholeheartedly to be with them in health and sickness, in kidnappings or robberies," joked another viewer, finding humor in the unusual proposal method.
However, the stunt wasn't universally appreciated, with some critics denouncing it as an "incitement to violence," according to local media reports.
"How sad it is to have violence and insecurity so normalized," one Instagram user commented, expressing their disapproval.
"I say no to him!!!" declared another critic. "Imagine the other proposals? Love you want to go on vacation and fake a kidnapping."
This incident is not the first of its kind where a proposal is disguised as a theft.
Back in 2019, another man faced harsh criticism after staging an armed robbery at a convenience store in Erie County, NY, as a means to propose, showcasing that such extreme proposal tactics have occurred before.
