The art of knowing when to keep your mouth shut is just as important as the art of talking. This husband however clearly hasn't mastered either of them. He took to Reddit to ask whether he was in the wrong for telling his wife that he could easily do what she does around the house.

His wife was a stay-at-home mom to their 7-year-old daughter.

He said that for the most part their life was going pretty well with a stable income and a household.

The point of contention however was when his wife said that he wasn't able to do basic household tasks.

He added that he still did housework when asked but would be told that he'd done it wrong.

While all the above was definitely something for OP to be annoyed about, what triggered an argument between the two was an evening when his wife was telling him about her day.

She was showing him how she had organized her shopping to make sure she saved money and made an offhand comment, "What would you ever do without me?"

OP told her he would be able to do all of this himself pointing out that he worked in finance. He also added that his work required more 'intellect' than household tasks.

This comment angered his wife who felt like he was calling her stupid.

OP provided context that his wife was studying physics when the two met in college but due to problems with her loan, she was unable to complete her degree.

She had initially planned to complete her degree but decided to stay home when OP got a job and the two had a kid.
